washers, cylinder head gasket and

Assemble inlet push rods and tubes to cylinder head. To aid assembly the
lower push rod cover tube cups are marked with a vertical line. This must
be centralized and placed facing the magneto and dynamo respectively. Fit
the four centre holding down bolts and torque bracket to cylinder head and
place in position on the cylinder block.

To
fit
the exhaust push rods, the cylinder head should be raised about
1".
This can be done by placing a piece of wood either side between the cylinder
head fin and the block fin. Position both inlet and exhaust push rods on
the tappets, remove the wood pieces and gently lower cylinder head to block.
Inspect the rocker balls for correct assembly to push rod cups. Now lightly
tighten the four centre bolts down.
(6)
Fit the four remaining bolts and evenly tighten the cylinder head down.
(7)
Adjust tappets and replace covers.

Refit torque brackets to frame clip, carburetter, sparking plugs, H.T. cable,
rocker oil feed pipe and exhaust pipes.

SPRING

Pik.
1
The following instructions are given for the benefit of dealers or owners wishing to
maintain the early type of Spring Wheel. However, should there be a large number
of parts in need of replacement, we would strongly recommend that the wheel is
modified to Mk.

specification. For further details, please contact the Service
Department. Triumph Engineering Co. Ltd., or the local Triumph Dea:er.
DISMANTLING
(1)
Remove spindle to frame locator.
To remove the dust excluder, withdraw
the distance collars, then centre sleeve, spring and dust plate. To extract
the dust cover from the hub, gently prise
it
away. On early models a rubber
gaiter
is
fitted; this can be removed in exactly the same manner.
(2)
Place the wheel spindle in the vice, having the back plafe uppermost and
remove the
10
nuts. The back plate can now be removed and the shims
carefully eased off the studs.

(3)
Turn the wheel over and unscrew the brake anchor plate in an anti-clockwke
I
direction.
When unscrewing, either remove the brake lever spring or
hold the lever in such a position
as
to prevent the brake shoes binding on
the bake drum.
