Why Troy-Bilt TB2246 engine fails to start?
    • C
      Christine EstradaAug 13, 2025
If your Troy-Bilt Lawn Mower engine won't start, several factors could be at play. Ensure the PTO/Blade Engage lever is disengaged (OFF), and the parking brake is engaged. Check that the spark plug wire is connected, and the Throttle/Choke lever is in the FAST position. The fuel tank may be empty or contain stale fuel – refill with fresh gasoline (less than 30 days old). A blocked fuel line could also be the culprit; clean it and replace the fuel filter. Inspect the spark plug; clean, adjust the gap, or replace it if necessary. Lastly, if the engine is flooded, crank it with the throttle in the FAST position.

If your Troy-Bilt Lawn Mower engine idles roughly, the spark plug may be fouled, faulty, or have a gap that is too wide; replace the spark plug and set the plug gap. Also, a dirty air cleaner can cause rough idling; replace the air cleaner element and/or clean the pre-cleaner.

      Alexandra WaltersAug 20, 2025
If your Troy-Bilt Lawn Mower engine runs erratically, there are several possible causes. First, make sure that the tractor isn't running with the choke activated; move the Throttle/Choke control lever out of the choke position. Check the spark plug wires to make sure they are connected and tightened. A blocked fuel line or stale fuel could also be the problem; clean the fuel line, fill the tank with clean, fresh gasoline, and replace the fuel filter. Ensure that the vent in the gas cap isn't plugged; clear it or replace the cap if damaged. Additionally, water or dirt in the fuel system could be the issue; drain the fuel tank and refill with clean, fresh gasoline. Finally, check the air cleaner; replace the air cleaner paper element or clean the foam precleaner if it's dirty.

What to do if Troy-Bilt TB2246 Lawn Mower will not mulch grass?
    • A
      Adam GarciaAug 25, 2025
If your Troy-Bilt Lawn Mower won't mulch grass, several factors could be the cause. Ensure the engine speed isn't too low by placing the Throttle/Choke control in the FAST position. Avoid mulching when the grass is wet. If the grass is excessively high, mow once at a high cutting height, then mow again at the desired height, or make a narrower cutting swath. Finally, check the blade; if it's dull, sharpen or replace it.
