  If your Troy-Bilt lawn mower engine runs erratically, it could be due to a loose spark plug boot; connect and tighten it. A blocked fuel line or stale fuel could also be the cause; clean the fuel line and fill the tank with clean, fresh gasoline. Another possibility is a plugged vent in the gas cap, so clear the vent. Water or dirt in the fuel system can also cause this issue; drain the fuel tank and refill with fresh fuel. If the unit is running with the choke applied, push the choke knob in. For a dirty air cleaner, refer to the engine manual.

A dull blade can also cause this issue; sharpen or replace the blade.
