How to fix Troy-Bilt Trimmer cutting head that will not advance line?

If the cutting head of your Troy-Bilt Trimmer will not advance the line, several issues could be the cause. It might be bound with grass, so stop the engine and clean it. Alternatively, the cutting head might be out of line, requiring you to refill it with a new line. The inner reel could also be bound up, so clean the inner reel and outer spool. It's also possible that the cutting head is dirty, so open it and remove any welded sections. If the line is welded, rewind it. If the line is twisted, stop the unit, push the bump knob, and pull the line until 4 inches (102 mm) extends outside the cutting head. Finally, if not enough line is extended, clean and thoroughly dry the cutting head.
