Overview

The Tuffcare Semi-Electric Homecare Bed, available in models T2020 (Dual Motors) and T2010 (Single Motor), is designed for homecare use, emphasizing durability and ease of maintenance. This manual provides comprehensive instructions for assembly, operation, and preventative maintenance to ensure proper function.

Function Description:

The Tuffcare Semi-Electric Homecare Bed is an adjustable bed system that allows for the independent positioning of the head and foot sections, as well as overall bed height adjustment. The T2020 model features dual motors for independent head and foot section adjustments, while the T2010 model uses a single motor for these adjustments. Both models include a Hi-Lo hand crank for manual height adjustment. The bed is designed to provide comfort and support for patients in a homecare setting, with features aimed at ease of use for both the patient and caregiver. A battery backup pack is included for emergency operation during power failures, allowing the bed to be raised and lowered for essential needs.

Recommended separation distances from portable and mobile RF communications equipment are also detailed.

Usage Features:

  • Pendant Control: The bed is operated via a standard 4-function pendant control. This allows for easy adjustment of the head and foot sections.
  • Hi-Lo Hand Crank: For overall bed height adjustment, a manual Hi-Lo hand crank is provided. This is particularly useful for caregivers to adjust the bed to a comfortable working height or for patient ingress/egress.
  • Motorized Adjustments:
    • Head Section: Pressing the "head up" or "head down" button on the pendant control adjusts the head section.
    • Foot Section: Pressing the "foot up" or "foot down" button on the pendant control adjusts the foot section.
  • Emergency Battery Backup: A spare battery backup pack is included to allow for raising and lowering the bed in case of power failure. For the T2020, it uses three 9-volt batteries (not supplied), located near the main control unit on the foot frame. For the T2010, it uses one 9-volt battery (not supplied), located on the motor next to the power cord. It is crucial to keep the battery pack vacant until needed to prevent draining and corrosion.
  • Caster Brake Lever: Casters are equipped with brake levers to secure the bed in position, ensuring stability during patient transfers and use.
  • Optional Accessories: The bed can be equipped with optional half side bed rails or full side bed rails for enhanced patient safety. Standard and pressure reduction mattresses are also available.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Tuffcare recommends cleaning the bed between uses and at least once a year. This involves unplugging the power cord, wiping down surfaces with disinfectant, and allowing them to dry completely. Care must be taken to avoid spraying water directly into electrical components.
  • Mechanical Inspection: Regular inspection of all bed components for damage or excessive wear is advised. This includes checking pull tubes, mounting hardware, bolts, rivets, and sleep surfaces to ensure they are intact and functioning properly. Caster wheels should also be inspected for proper appearance and roll.
  • Electrical Inspection: All electrical components, including the pendant, power cord, and motor cables, should be inspected for chafing, cuts, or excessive wear. All plugs must be fully attached and free of damage. All functions should be checked for proper operation.
  • Battery Backup Maintenance: Back-up batteries should be checked every 3 months and replaced yearly. They should be removed from the battery pack within 72 hours if the equipment won't be used, and pre-installation is discouraged to prevent draining and corrosion.
  • Maximizing Service Life:
    • Run the bed frame to its highest or lowest position once a day.
    • Observe bed operation and report any discrepancies to service personnel.
    • Check and tighten all tubes and mounting hardware monthly.
    • Check and tighten all electric wires and cables monthly.
    • Lubricate pivot points, pins, and bolts every 2 months.
  • Service Personnel: All electric components should only be replaced by service personnel to avoid possible shock hazards. Circuit diagrams, component part lists, descriptions, and calibration instructions are available upon request to assist service personnel.

Safety Precautions:

  • Keep fingers and arms away from moving mechanisms and pinch points.
  • Read and fully understand the manual before operating the bed.
  • Ensure the bed is fully assembled and checked before operation.
  • Do not expose the bed to weather or moisture.
  • Avoid leaving loose clothing or body parts between moving parts.
  • Do not expose electrical components to flammable items.
  • Use only with a proper mattress.
  • Do not use if the power cord is cut, frayed, or loosely connected.
  • Plug into a grounded 110-volt outlet to avoid electrical shock.
  • Do not modify the equipment without manufacturer authorization.
  • Leave the bed in its lowest position when unattended to reduce fall risk.
  • Be cautious of power supply cord damage from kinking, shearing, or other mechanical stress.
  • Take precautions to avoid squeezing cables from other equipment.
  • Emergency stop buttons are located on the hand pendant.
