Overview

UniStream® Built-in

The UniStream® Built-in series represents an advanced line of programmable controllers that integrate a CPU, an HMI panel, and built-in I/Os into a single, compact unit. This series is available in two versions: UniStream Built-in and UniStream Built-in Pro, offering a range of models to suit various application needs. The models are distinguished by their HMI panel size, with options including 5", 7", and 10.1" displays.

Function Description

The UniStream® Built-in controllers are designed for comprehensive automation tasks, combining control, visualization, and communication functionalities. The integrated CPU handles complex logic and data processing, while the HMI panel provides a user-friendly interface for operation and monitoring. The built-in I/Os offer direct connectivity to various sensors and actuators, simplifying system architecture and reducing wiring complexity.

The HMI panel features a resistive color touch-screen, enabling intuitive interaction with the system. It supports rich graphic libraries for HMI design, allowing users to create visually appealing and informative screens. The panel also includes built-in trends and gauges, auto-tuned PID control, data tables, data sampling, and recipes, enhancing its capabilities for process control and data management.

The UniApps™ feature provides access to a suite of tools for monitoring, troubleshooting, and debugging, either locally or remotely via VNC. This functionality is crucial for maintaining system performance and quickly resolving issues. Security is a key aspect, with multi-level password protection ensuring secure access to the controller. The built-in I/O system supports various configurations, including digital, analog, and temperature inputs, making it adaptable to a wide range of applications.

For expanded I/O capabilities, UniStream® Built-in controllers can be connected to UniStream I/O and UniStream I/O-O™ modules via a dedicated I/O Expansion Port. Remote I/O via EX-RC1 is also supported, offering flexibility in system design. Communication options are extensive, including Ethernet, USB host, and USB device ports. The Ethernet port supports high-speed Ethernet communications, while the USB ports facilitate data transfer and PC-UniStream communication.

The controllers are equipped with a micro-SD slot for data logging, recipe storage, and other data-intensive tasks. Fieldbus support includes CANopen, CAN Layer2, MODBUS, and EtherNet/IP, allowing seamless integration into existing industrial networks. The programming software supports advanced algorithms for serial RS232/485, TCP/IP, or CANBUS third-party protocols via Message Composer, enabling complex communication schemes. Additionally, the controllers support SNMP Agent/Trap, e-mail, SMS, modems, GPRS/GSM, VNC Client, FTP Server/Client, providing a comprehensive suite of communication tools for remote monitoring and control.

Usage Features

The UniStream® Built-in controllers are designed for ease of use and flexibility in various industrial environments. The built-in design simplifies installation, as it combines multiple components into a single unit, reducing wiring and panel space requirements. The HMI panel offers a clear and responsive interface, making it easy for operators to interact with the system.

The programming environment supports all-in-one software for hardware configuration, communications, and HMI/PLC applications, streamlining the development process. This integrated approach reduces development time and effort, allowing users to quickly deploy their applications. The availability of different HMI panel sizes (5", 7", and 10.1") allows users to select the most appropriate display for their application, balancing visibility and panel space.

The I/O connection points are clearly labeled and organized into groups, simplifying wiring and troubleshooting. The digital inputs can be configured for various modes, including normal digital inputs, high-speed inputs, and encoder inputs, providing versatility for different sensor types. The analog inputs support multiple modes (voltage or current) and can be set up independently, allowing for precise measurement of various process variables. Temperature inputs support thermocouples and RTDs, with options for different wiring configurations (2-wire, 3-wire, 4-wire) to ensure accuracy.

The relay outputs are designed for reliability and offer increased contact life span, protecting the controller from potential damage due to reverse EMF. The source transistor outputs provide flexible control for various actuators. The ability to snap modules onto the back of the controller allows for easy expansion and customization, adapting the system to evolving application needs.

Maintenance Features

Maintenance of the UniStream® Built-in controllers is designed to be straightforward and efficient. The battery for the Real-Time Clock (RTC) and system data is easily accessible for replacement, ensuring continuous operation and data integrity. The battery is protected by a removable cover, and a plastic tab prevents contact while the unit is being serviced. Proper precautions, such as Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) prevention, are emphasized during battery replacement to avoid damaging the device.

The controller's design allows for easy removal and re-installation of the battery, with clear instructions provided for proper handling and polarity marking. The battery is supplied installed inside the unit, and users are advised to dispose of used batteries according to local and national standards and regulations.

Wiring procedures are detailed, specifying the use of 26-12 AWG wire for crimp terminals and 7±0.5mm (0.250-0.300 inches) for wire stripping. This ensures proper and secure connections, which are crucial for reliable operation and ease of maintenance. Wiring guidelines emphasize the use of a metal cabinet for proper grounding and protection against electromagnetic interference. Shielded twisted pair cables are recommended for high-speed and analog I/O signals to minimize noise and ensure data integrity.

The modular design of the UniStream® Built-in series allows for easy replacement of individual modules if needed, reducing downtime and simplifying repairs. The ability to connect and disconnect installed devices according to the device's installation guide further aids in maintenance. The mounting brackets are designed for secure installation, and instructions are provided for tightening the screws to ensure proper support.

The panel mounting process is also detailed, including guidelines for panel thickness and ensuring proper space considerations. The use of a Panel Mounting Seal is recommended to ensure a secure and environmentally sealed installation. The necessary torque for mounting screws is specified to prevent over-tightening and potential damage.

Overall, the UniStream® Built-in series is designed with both functionality and maintainability in mind, offering a robust and adaptable solution for a wide range of automation applications.
