Check for any leaks in the suction piping and confirm that the suction pipe inlet is well below the water level. A defective suction trap gasket could also be the culprit, so replace it if needed. Also, the pump should not be lifting water more than 10 ft. (3 m), and the suction pipe should be at least 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) in diameter. Another cause could be clogged components. Inspect the suction trap and impeller for any blockages, cleaning them as necessary. Worn impellers or diffusers can also reduce performance, requiring replacement parts.
