Overview

This document is a technical manual for Venting Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs), specifically covering models VHBQi-D015TFA through VHBQi-D200TFA.

Function Description

The Venting Energy Recovery Ventilator is designed to provide fresh air while recovering energy from the exhaust air. It helps maintain indoor air quality by continuously supplying filtered fresh air and exhausting stale air, minimizing energy loss through a heat exchanger. The system incorporates various features to optimize performance, including automatic bypass, defrost functions, and optional CO2 control.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual provides detailed specifications across several models, categorized by airflow capacity.

General Specifications (across models):

  • Power Supply: All models operate on 220-240V/1Ph/50Hz.
  • Control: Standard control includes a 7-Day Time-clock. BMS Modbus control is also available.
  • Fan Type: All models use AC Fan Motors.
  • Fan Speeds: All models offer 3 Speeds with Individual Control for both supply and exhaust fans.
  • Summer Bypass: Automatic with an adjustable range.
  • Defrost: Automatic with an adjustable range.
  • CO2 Control: Optional controller available for On/Off control with an adjustable range.
  • Fan Boost Contacts: 3 available connections to Volt-Free Contacts (Closed = Boost to High Speed).
  • Fire Shutdown: 1 available connection to Volt-Free Contact (Closed = Shutdown).
  • Control Cable: 2x0.5mm² for all models.

Usage Features

The ERV is controlled via an intelligent controller with an LCD display screen.

Controller Functions:

  • ON/OFF: Simple button press to start or stop the unit.
  • Mode Switch: Allows selection of display modes for outdoor air (oA), return air (rA), supply air (SA), and fresh air (Fr) temperatures.
  • Air Velocity Setting: Adjusts fan speed for both return and supply air.
  • Time Setting: Sets the current time, with data saved even after power off.
  • Day Setting: Selects the current day of the week.
  • Weekly Timer: Configurable ON/OFF periods for automatic operation throughout the week.
  • Bypass Operation: The bypass function automatically opens when the outdoor temperature is within a specified range (default 19-21°C) to allow free cooling. This range is adjustable.
  • Defrost Mode: The unit features an automatic defrost function to prevent frost formation on the heat exchanger. There are two modes: traditional EA fan defrost (default) and OA side electrical heater defrost (optional, recommended for temperatures below -15°C). The defrost interval and duration are adjustable.
  • Filter Alarm: An alarm symbol flashes to remind users to clean or replace filters, with adjustable alarm settings (45, 60, 90, or 180 days).
  • Error Codes: The controller displays error codes for various issues such as temperature sensor errors, EEPROM errors, communication errors, and more, aiding in troubleshooting.

Dial Switch Settings (SW4):

  • SW4-1 (Defrost Mode):
    • OFF: Traditional EA fan defrost.
    • ON: OA side electrical heater defrost (requires heater connection to OA duct).
  • SW4-2 (Bypass Mode):
    • OFF: Automatic bypass based on outdoor temperature.
    • ON: Manual bypass via voltage-free connector (free cooling).
  • SW4-3 (Forced Ventilation Mode):
    • OFF: Ventilator controlled by CO2 sensor.
    • ON: Ventilator controlled by CO2 and humidity sensor (requires humidity sensor connection).
  • SW4-4: Reserved.

External ON/OFF Switch Control Logic:

  • Allows external voltage-free signals to control the ventilator.
  • If the ventilator is OFF and receives an ON signal, it runs at high speed. If it then receives an OFF signal, it returns to OFF.
  • If the ventilator is ON and receives an ON signal, it runs at high speed. If it then receives an OFF signal, it returns to its previous fan speed.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for efficient and safe operation.

Filter Cleaning:

  1. Open the access door.
  2. Remove filters from the side of the unit.
  3. Vacuum filters to remove dust and dirt. For heavy soiling, wash with water and soft soap.
  4. Allow filters to dry naturally before re-inserting.
  5. Replace filters if badly affected or broken.
    • Recommendation: Filters should be cleaned regularly, with frequency depending on the working environment and unit running time.

Heat Exchanger Maintenance:

  1. Pull off the filters.
  2. Draw out the heat exchanger from the unit.
  3. Clean dust and dirt from the exchanger.
  4. Reinstall the exchanger and filters.
    • Recommendation: Heat exchanger maintenance is recommended every 3 years.

Troubleshooting: The manual includes a "Failure diagnose" chart to help users identify and resolve common issues before contacting support.

  • Reduced Airflow: Often caused by dust and dirt blocking the filter. Solution: Replace or clean the filter.
  • Noise from Vents: May indicate loose vent installations. Solution: Re-tighten vent connections.
  • Unit Not Working: Could be due to no electricity or a tripped protection breaker. Solution: Ensure power is on and connect the breaker.
