  To troubleshoot a pilot light that won't stay lit on your Vermont Castings Indoor Fireplace, first, check the pilot flame. It must impinge on the thermocouple/thermopile. Clean and/or adjust the pilot for maximum flame impingement on the thermopile and thermocouple. Also, the pilot generator (thermocouple) or remote wall switch might be defective. Alternatively, the automatic valve could be defective. Turn the valve knob to “Pilot”. Maintain flow to pilot; a milivolt meter should read greater than 10 mV. If the reading is okay and the pilot does not stay on, replace the gas valve. Note: An interrupter block (not supplied) must be used to conduct this test.

  If the spark ignitor on your Vermont Castings Indoor Fireplace won't light, first, try lighting the pilot with a match. If the pilot lights, turn it off and push the red button again. If the pilot still won't light, check the gap at the electrode and pilot; it should be 1/8" to have a strong spark. If there is still no spark to the pilot, and the electrode wire is properly connected, replace the ignitor.
