Why won't the pilot light stay lit on my Vermont Castings OXDV30NV?

  If the pilot light on your Vermont Castings Indoor Fireplace won't stay lit after following the lighting instructions, it could be due to a defective pilot generator or remote wall switch. Ensure the pilot flame properly touches the thermocouple/thermopile. Clean and/or adjust the pilot for maximum flame impingement on the thermopile and thermocouple. Alternatively, the automatic valve might be defective. Turn the valve knob to “Pilot” and maintain flow to pilot; a millivolt meter should read greater than 10mV. If the reading is okay but the pilot still doesn't stay on, the gas valve should be replaced. Note that an interrupter block (not supplied) must be used to conduct this test.

  If your Vermont Castings Indoor Fireplace spark ignitor won't light, it could be due to a defective or misaligned electrode at the pilot. Try lighting the pilot with a match. If it lights, turn off the pilot and push the red button again. If it still doesn't light, check the gap at the electrode and pilot—it should be 1/8” to ensure a strong spark. Another possibility is a defective ignitor (push button). With the control knob in the pilot position, push the control knob all the way and hold. Check for a spark at the electrode and pilot. If there's no spark and the electrode wire is properly connected, replace the battery in the ignitor module and try again. If the problem persists, replace the ignitor module box.

  If you are experiencing frequent pilot outages with your Vermont Castings Indoor Fireplace, it could be due to a pilot flame that is too low or blowing, causing the pilot safety to drop out. Clean and/or adjust the pilot flame for maximum flame impingement on the thermopile and thermocouple. Another possible cause is a blockage of the vent terminal. Check the vent terminal for blockage, which could be recycling the flue gases.

Check the wall switch and wires for proper connections. Jumper wire across terminals at wall switch, if burner comes on, replace defective wall switch. If okay, jumper wires across wall switch wires at valve, if burner comes on, wires are faulty or connections are bad. Second, the thermopile may not be generating sufficient millivoltage.
