How to fix a Vermont Castings VM400 burner that will not light?
    • M
      Mark ScottJul 26, 2025
If the burner on your Vermont Castings Grill won't light, several factors could be at play. First, ensure the gas supply is turned on and that you have propane. Check for any blockages in the gas system or misalignment of the gas valve to the burner's venturi tubes. Also, verify the propane hose and regulator are correctly attached. To resolve this, turn on the fuel supply and try again, confirming gas flow by smell or sound. Weigh the propane cylinder to check its fullness. Clean any blockages in the venturi tubes with a venturi brush and carefully probe the gas valve orifice with a pin or needle, without enlarging it. Reinsert the gas injector into the venturi tube if needed, and tighten the regulator's plastic collar onto the cylinder valve by hand.

Why does my Vermont Castings VM400 Grill unit won’t stay lit?

      Donald Thompson MDAug 2, 2025
If your Vermont Castings Grill won't stay lit, it could be due to wind or running out of fuel. Shelter your grill from strong winds. Confirm the flow of gas by smell or by listening for the hiss of gas being emitted. Weigh your propane cylinder to ensure it's not empty. A standard 20 lb. cylinder will weigh about 18 lb. when it is empty and 38 lb. when it is 80% full. Never take a propane cylinder indoors for any purpose.

How to fix excessive yellow flame on Vermont Castings VM400?
    • N
      nhamiltonAug 18, 2025
Your Vermont Castings Grill should burn with a predominantly blue flame. If the flame is mostly yellow, it indicates an improper air shutter opening. Check the venturi tubes for obstruction and clean them. If yellow flames persist, adjust the opening on the air shutter of the venturi tube located under the front console of the Grill.
