5 Disposal
5.1 Disposal of electrical and electronic appliances
This symbol means that you are legally obliged to dispose of these appliances separately from
unsorted municipal waste (see Chapter 5.2). Disposal via household waste, such as the non-
recyclable waste bin, is prohibited. The disposal of old electrical appliances is free of charge for
consumers.
5.2 Options for returning old appliances
•
Owners of old appliances can hand them in at municipal collection points, such as their local recycling centre,
to ensure that the old appliances are disposed of properly. Under certain conditions, it is also possible to return
appliances to distributors and other collection points.
•
Retailers: Distributors with a retail space for electrical and electronic equipment of at least 400 square metres
are obliged to take back waste electrical equipment. Food retailers with a total retail space of at least 800 square
metres that also sell electrical and electronic equipment several times a calendar year or permanently and make
them available on the market are also obliged to take this equipment back. Up to three appliances with no edge
longer than 25cm can be returned. Larger old appliances must also be taken back at the point of sale when a new
electrical appliance is purchased that essentially fulfils the same functions.
•
Distance selling: Distributors who sell their products by means of distance communication are obliged to take
back old appliances if the storage and dispatch spaces for electrical and electronic equipment are at least 400m².
