Why won't my Vitamix XL run?

  If your Vitamix blender won't run, first ensure the power cord is firmly plugged into the power outlet. Also, check that the On/Off switch is in the 'on' position and that the switches are clean and moving freely. It's possible the thermal protector has shut the machine off; if so, turn the power off for up to 45 minutes to reset it. You can speed up cooling by placing the motor base in a cool spot or using a vacuum or fan to circulate air around the bottom of the motor base (unplug it first).

  If your Vitamix blender container is leaking from the bottom, check the blade assembly for any loose, damaged, or nicked components and replace them if necessary. Additionally, tighten the retainer nut with a retainer nut wrench, moving clockwise until it is snug.

  If your Vitamix blender didn't work right out of the box, try plugging the machine into a new outlet. If you have a programmable model, you can reset the machine to its original factory settings. The machine may also stop working if it is overloaded on low speed; to cool the motor, reset by turning the power off for up to 45 minutes.

Why is my Vitamix XL making a loud noise from the blade area?

  If there's a loud noise coming from the blade area of your Vitamix blender, the drive socket may be broken. Check it for a fine crack down the center or worn teeth and replace it with a new drive socket (Item #891). Alternatively, the blade bearings might need replacement. Spin the blades using the drive spindle at the bottom of the container; if they spin freely with no resistance, replace the blade assembly. The drive spindle on the blade assembly may also be worn; check for worn teeth and replace the blade assembly if needed.

  If the blades of your Vitamix blender don't spin, the drive socket may be broken. Check for a fine crack down the center or worn teeth and replace it with a new drive socket (Item #891). The blade bearings might also need replacement. Spin the blades using the drive spindle at the bottom of the container; if the blades spin freely with no resistance, replace the blade assembly. Another possibility is that the drive spindle on the blade assembly is worn; check for worn teeth and replace the blade assembly if needed.
