This document is a Quick Guide for the Volvo V70 and XC70 models, providing a selection of the most common functions. It serves as a supplementary resource to the full owner's manual, which contains comprehensive safety instructions, warnings, and detailed information.

General Information and Navigation:

The guide uses specific symbols: a numbered circle (1) indicates different parts in overview images, a numbered square (1) denotes step-by-step instructions, and an exclamation mark within a triangle (A) signifies warnings, important information, and notes that require careful reading. Options marked with an asterisk (*) are optional features. The full owner's manual is available as a printed document, digitally on the car's screen, on the Volvo website, and as a mobile app. The mobile app offers the complete manual, instruction films, and various search paths. Starting and Driving:

Remote Control Key:

  • Function: Unlocks doors and tailgate, disarms the alarm (configurable in MY CAR), locks doors and tailgate, arms the alarm, controls approach light duration, unlocks the tailgate with one press, opens the power tailgate with a long press (if equipped), provides information (if equipped), and includes a panic function.
  • Usage Features: The remote control key can store settings for features like door mirrors and the power driver's seat.
  • Indicator Lamps:
    • Green constant light: Car is locked.
    • Yellow constant light: Car is unlocked.
    • Red continuous light: Alarm has been triggered since the car was locked.
    • Red light flashing alternately in both indicator lamps: Alarm was triggered less than 5 minutes ago.
  • Important Note: Electromagnetic fields and screening can interfere with the Keyless function. Avoid placing the remote control key near mobile phones or metal objects.

Keyless Lock System (if equipped):

  • Function: Allows locking and unlocking the car without physically using the remote control key.
  • Usage Features: The remote control key can remain in a pocket.
    • To lock and arm the alarm: Depress the button on the rear section of the door handle.
    • To unlock and disarm the alarm: Grip a door handle and open the door, or press lightly on the tailgate's rubberized pressure plate.

Starting and Switching Off the Engine:

  • Starting:
    1. Push the remote control key into the ignition switch (not applicable for Keyless drive).
    2. Depress the clutch or brake pedal.
    3. Briefly press the START/STOP ENGINE button.
  • Switching Off:
    1. Briefly press the START/STOP ENGINE button.
    2. Take the remote control key out from the ignition switch (not applicable for Keyless drive).
  • Important Note: After a cold start, the idling speed is high regardless of outside temperature, as part of Volvo's emissions system. Diesel engines may have a delayed start due to preheating.

Parking Brake:

  • Activation: Press the PUSH LOCK/PULL RELEASE control. The symbol flashes, then glows constantly when activated.
  • Disengagement:
    1. Depress the brake pedal.
    2. Pull the PUSH LOCK/PULL RELEASE control.
  • Automatic Disengagement: Drive away (for cars with automatic gearbox, the seatbelt must be buckled).

Windscreen Wipers and Rain Sensor (if equipped):

  • Function: Controls windscreen wipers and rain sensor sensitivity.
  • Usage Features: Move the lever downward for windscreen wipers, upward for a single sweep.
    1. Rain sensor On/Off.
    2. Regulates sensor sensitivity or intermittent delay.
    3. Wiper, rear window - intermittent/normal.
  • Maintenance Features: To lift wiper blades for service, refer to the owner's manual.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TM) (if equipped):

  • Function: Monitors tyre pressure and requires calibration after tyre changes or pressure adjustments.
  • Calibration:
    1. With the ignition switched off, inflate all tyres according to the pressure label on the driver's side door pillar.
    2. Start the car. In the MY CAR source, press OK/MENU.
    3. Select "Tyre pressure" > "Calibrate tyre pressure" and press OK/MENU.
    4. Recalibration occurs while driving.

Driver Support in Your Car:

Start/Stop Function (if equipped):

  • Function: Automatically stops and restarts the engine to save fuel.
  • Manual Gearbox:
    • Stop engine: Declutch, move gear lever to neutral, release clutch pedal.
    • Start engine: Depress clutch pedal.
  • Automatic Gearbox:
    • Stop engine: Stop car with foot brake, maintain pressure.
    • Start engine: Release foot pressure on foot brake.
  • Usage Features: An illuminated button lamp indicates the function is active.

Pedestrian Protection (if equipped):

  • Function: Collision Warning with Auto Brake and Cyclist and Pedestrian Detection warns, brakes, and/or stops for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.
  • Important Note: This function is an aid and does not work in all situations. It may not detect cyclists from the side, pedestrians shorter than 80 cm, or partially obscured individuals. The driver remains responsible for safe driving and maintaining a safe distance.

Your Driving Environment:

Adjusting the Seat:

  • Function: Adjusts seat position for comfort and safety.
  • Usage Features:
    1. Raise/lower front of seat cushion.
    2. Raise/lower seat.
    3. Move seat forward/backward.
    4. Tilt backrest.
    5. Lumbar support adjustment (if equipped).
    6. Storing settings for power seat (if equipped).
    7. Memory buttons for power seat (if equipped).
  • Store Setting (Power Seat): Hold the button depressed while pressing one of the memory buttons until a signal is heard and text appears in the combined instrument panel. This stores seat and door mirror positions. Lumbar support position is not stored.
  • Important Note: Adjust the driving position correctly before setting off. Ensure the seat is locked to prevent injury during heavy braking or accidents. The position for door mirrors and memory settings (not lumbar support) for the power seat can also be stored in the remote control key.

Adjusting the Steering Wheel:

  • Function: Adjusts steering wheel position.
  • Usage Features:
    1. Release steering wheel lock.
    2. Adjust steering wheel forward/backward and up/down.
    3. Lock steering wheel.
  • Important Note: Adjust the steering wheel (after adjusting the seat) before setting off – never while driving.

Power Operated Tailgate (if equipped):

  • Opening: Press lightly on the rubberized pressure plate under the outside handle, or long-press the lighting panel button or remote control button until the tailgate opens.
  • Closing: Press the button, and the tailgate closes automatically. It can also be opened/closed manually.
  • Important Note: Pay attention to the risk of crushing when opening/closing. Ensure no one is near the tailgate. Operate with caution. Avoid using power tailgate operation under a low roof. If the system has operated continuously for a long time, it may switch off to avoid overload and can be used again after approximately 2 minutes.

Functions in Your Car:

Climate System Controls:

Regulating Temperature:

  • Function: Controls individual temperature settings for the passenger compartment.
  • Usage Features:
    1. Turn for individual temperature in the left/right-hand area. The screen shows the selected temperature.
    2. Press AUTO for automatic control of air distribution and other functions. The screen shows AUTO CLIMATE.
  • Tip: AUTO mode is recommended for optimum climate comfort. When fan speed and air distribution are regulated, AUTO mode is deactivated.

Defrosting the Windscreen:

  • Function: Activates windscreen electric heating and maximum airflow.
  • Usage Features:
    1. Press to activate windscreen's electric heating (symbol 1 illuminates).
    2. Next press activates maximum airflow against windscreen and side windows (symbols 1 and 2 illuminate).
    3. Next press switches off both functions (no symbol illuminates).
  • Without Electric Heating: Press to activate/deactivate airflow.

Headlamp Control's Auto Mode:

  • Function: Provides automatic control of lighting.
  • Usage Features:
    • Daytime running lights automatically switch between daytime running lights and dipped beam.
    • Main beam can be activated when dipped beam is on.
    • Active high beam (AHB) (if equipped) dims and activates main beam automatically.
    • Tunnel detection (if equipped) is activated.

Combined Instrument Panel:

Trip Computer Operation:

  • Function: Accesses trip computer menus and displays messages.
  • Usage Features:
    1. OK: Opens trip computer menus, activates selected option, extinguishes messages.
    2. Thumbwheel: Scrolls between trip computer options.
    3. RESET: Resets data in the selected trip computer step and returns to the menu structure.

Resetting the Trip Meter:

  • Function: Resets trip meters T1 or T2.
  • Usage Features:
    1. Turn the left-hand stalk switch thumbwheel to show trip meter T1 or T2.
    2. Long press the RESET button to reset the displayed trip meter.

Infotainment System:

Switching On and Off:

  • Function: Activates and deactivates the Sensus system (including navigation and phone functions).
  • Usage Features:
    1. Short press: Activates the system.
    2. Long press (until screen switches off): Deactivates.
    • To switch off sound: Short press (next press reactivates).
  • Function: Selects main sources and navigates menus.
  • Usage Features:
    1. Press RADIO, MEDIA, MY CAR, NAV (if equipped), TEL (if equipped), or to select the main source. The normal view for the last active source is shown.
    2. Press OK/MENU or the steering wheel thumbwheel to access the selected source's main menu.
    3. Turn TUNE or the thumbwheel to navigate menus.
    4. Press OK/MENU or the thumbwheel to make a selection.
    • Briefly press EXIT to go back in the menu, cancel a function, or delete characters.
    • Long press EXIT to go back to normal view, or from normal view to the main source view.
  • Tips: To go to the shortcut menu from normal view, press the main source button once. Press again to return to normal view.

Phone (if equipped):

Connecting a Bluetooth® Phone:

  • Function: Connects a mobile phone via Bluetooth for hands-free operation.
  • Usage Features:
    1. In the phone source normal view, press OK/MENU.
    2. Select "Make car discoverable" and confirm with OK/MENU.
    3. Activate Bluetooth on the mobile phone, search for and connect to the car.
    4. Follow instructions on the mobile phone and screen.
  • Important Note: If phone registration fails, refer to the owner's manual.

Making a Call:

  • Function: Initiates phone calls.
  • Usage Features:
    1. In the phone source normal view, enter the number or turn the steering wheel thumbwheel downward for the phone book, upward for the call register.
    2. Press the thumbwheel to dial.
    • Call is interrupted with a press on EXIT.

Answering the Phone:

  • Function: Accepts incoming calls.
  • Usage Features:
    • Press the thumbwheel to accept.
    • Call is rejected/interrupted with a press on EXIT.

Internet (if equipped):

Connecting to the Internet:

  • Function: Connects the car to the internet for various services.
  • Usage Features:
    1. Connect mobile phone via Bluetooth or activate tethering for Wi-Fi. For car modem connection, fit the SIM card into the reader in the glovebox.
    2. In MY CAR source normal view, press OK/MENU, select "Settings" > "Internet settings" > "Connect through." Select a connection option.
    3. Wi-Fi: Connect to a network and enter its password. Car modem: Enter the SIM card's PIN code.
  • Important Note: Using the internet involves data transfer, incurring charges from your network operator. To avoid entering the PIN code every time the car starts with a car modem, deactivate "Lock SIM card" under the "Car modem" option.

Using Apps When Connected to the Internet:

  • Function: Accesses music services, web radio, navigation services, and web browsers.
  • Usage Features:
    1. Press the Connect button.
    2. Select "Apps" and press OK/MENU to show available apps.
    3. Select the app and confirm with OK/MENU.
  • Important Note: Some apps require login with a separate account from the app/service supplier.

External Audio Device:

Connecting an External Audio Device:

  • Function: Connects external audio devices via AUX or USB inputs.
  • Usage Features:
    1. Connect device via AUX or USB inputs in the center console's storage compartment.
    2. In the media source normal view, press MEDIA.
    3. Turn TUNE to the desired audio source and press OK/MENU.

  • Usage Features: In MY CAR source normal view, press OK/MENU and select "Service & repair."
  • Information: "Service & repair" shows information about your registered workshop. "Dealer information" offers options to call, send booking requests, update workshop information, and set the workshop as a destination.
  • Important Note: This feature applies only to certain markets.

ECO (if equipped):

  • Function: Activates an optimal fuel-efficient driving program.
  • Usage Features: One press on ECO activates the program, which includes:
    • Start/Stop: Engine may auto-stop before the car is stationary.
    • Eco Coast: Engine braking ceases, and the car coasts.
    • Deactivation or reduction of certain climate functions.

Tips:

Refuelling:

  • Function: Opens the fuel filler flap.
  • Usage Features: Press the button on the lighting panel. The flap opens when the button is released.
  • Indicator: An arrow on the combined instrument panel's fuel symbol indicates which side of the car the fuel cap is located on.

Car Care:

Washing the Car:

  • Recommendation: Handwashing is gentler on paintwork than automatic car washes, especially for new cars.
  • Method: Use clean water and a washing sponge. Avoid dirt and grit to prevent scratches.

Cleaning Leather Upholstery (if equipped):

  • Maintenance: Leather requires regular care to maintain appearance.
  • Method: Treat with the Volvo Leather Care kit 1-4 times per year, available from a Volvo dealer.
  • Important Note: Some colored clothing (e.g., jeans, suede) may discolor upholstery. Never use strong solvents, as they can damage the upholstery.

Storage Spaces:

  • Location: Various storage spaces are shown in the guide.
  • Further Information: The owner's manual provides the location of more storage spaces.

AUX/USB and 12 V Sockets (if equipped):

  • Function: Provides power and connectivity for external devices.
  • Usage Features:
    • The remote control key must be in key position I for the 12V sockets in the passenger compartment to work.
    • The 12V socket in the cargo area is always live.
  • Technical Specifications:
    • Max. current take-off: 10 A (120 W) if one 12 V socket is used at a time in the tunnel console.
    • If both sockets in the tunnel console are used simultaneously, the figure is 7.5 A (90 W) per socket.
