Overview

The Vornado 660 AE is a whole room circulator designed to efficiently move air throughout an indoor living space, helping to maximize the performance of heating and cooling systems. This can lead to energy savings by allowing users to set their thermostats less aggressively in both summer and winter. The device is intended for indoor use only in the United States and Canada and is not suitable for commercial or industrial applications.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Vornado 660 AE is to circulate air, creating a more uniform temperature throughout a room. This is achieved through its powerful motor and signature air inlets, which are designed to move more air effectively. The circulator features directable airflow, allowing users to adjust the direction of the airflow to their desired area.

Usage Features:

The Vornado 660 AE offers multiple speed settings to accommodate various comfort levels. These include low, medium, high, and turbo speeds, which can be selected using the manual controls located on the back of the product. The power unit can be turned ON or OFF with a dedicated button.

A key feature of the 660 AE model is its integration with Amazon Alexa. Once connected to an Alexa Echo device or the Alexa App on a mobile phone, the circulator can be controlled via voice commands. Users can turn the fan ON or OFF, set the speed to specific levels (TURBO, HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW), or increase/decrease the speed using simple voice prompts like "Alexa, turn ON / OFF the fan" or "Alexa, set speed on the fan to TURBO." The Alexa app can also serve as a remote control for the device, providing additional control options.

To get started with Alexa integration, users need to download or update the Amazon Alexa app and ensure their phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz WIFI network. After plugging in the Vornado 660 AE, the device can be added through the Alexa app by tapping the MORE icon and following the on-screen instructions, which may include scanning a 2D barcode on the product. A successful connection will be indicated by a message, and the fan will be ready for use.

For troubleshooting or to disconnect the product from the network, a factory reset option is available. This can be performed by pressing and holding the TURBO and POWER buttons for 10-15 seconds until the product beeps four times. This resets the device to its factory settings, allowing for reconnection if needed. Users can also immediately disconnect the fan from Alexa device control by unplugging it from the wall.

The circulator is designed with user safety and convenience in mind. It features a finger-friendly design that resists curious fingers, making it safer for households with children. Non-marking silicone feet are added for stability, preventing damage to surfaces.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning is recommended to maintain the product's performance. The Vornado 660 AE is designed for easy maintenance, particularly with its removable grille. To clean the grille, users must first unplug the device to prevent injury from remote activation. Three screws located on the back of the inlet grille (at roughly 10, 2, and 6 o'clock positions) need to be removed to release the front grille. Once removed, the grille can be dusted or washed with a mild dishwashing soap. It is important not to place the grille in a dishwasher, as excessive heat can distort the plastic. To reattach, the front grille should be positioned so the Vornado logo is straight, and then all screws should be replaced. A brush attachment on a household vacuum cleaner can be used to vacuum accumulated dust off the front grille and air inlets.

Blade removal is also possible for thorough cleaning, with pliers recommended for this process. After unplugging the device, the nut from the shaft needs to be removed by turning it clockwise to loosen, followed by the washers. The blade can then be pulled straight out from the shaft. The blade can be wiped with a damp cloth. For greasy environments, mild soap or a common household cleaner may be used, but solvents should be avoided, and the blade should not be placed in a dishwasher due to the risk of plastic distortion. When reattaching the blade, it is crucial to align the flat side of the shaft directly with the corresponding flat side on the blade's socket and push the blade all the way on until it bottoms out. A hammer should not be used, as this could result in bearing damage. Finally, the flat washer, spring washer, and nut should be reinstalled.

The motor of the Vornado 660 AE is permanently lubricated and does not require oiling, simplifying long-term maintenance.

Safety Instructions:

The manual emphasizes several important safety instructions. Users are advised to read and save all instructions. Supervision is required for children under 12 and individuals with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities during installation, operation, cleaning, and maintenance. The product should be kept away from curtains, draperies, tablecloths, and other fabrics to prevent them from being drawn into the product, which could damage the motor or cause a fire. It should not be placed near high-temperature heat sources, in a window, on an uneven or unstable surface, or near water. The appliance, power supply, power cord, and plug must not come into contact with water, and the product should not be used on wet surfaces or where it could fall into a bathtub, laundry, swimming pool, or other water container. Outdoor use or exposure to weather is prohibited.

The power cord should not be run under carpeting, covered with throw rugs, runners, or similar coverings, or routed under furniture or appliances. It should be arranged away from traffic areas to prevent tripping hazards and should not hang over counter edges or be crimped in doors. The appliance should be placed near an easily accessible outlet for quick unplugging in emergencies.

To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, and injury, the product should not be operated with a solid-state speed device like a dimmer control switch. Any fan with a damaged cord or plug should be discarded or returned to an authorized service facility. The unit should not be operated if it has been dropped or damaged, or if the power cord or plug is damaged. Attempting to repair or replace parts is not recommended; only original replacement parts should be used, and any power cord damage must be addressed by the manufacturer or qualified persons.

The product includes overload protection (a fuse). If the fuse blows, indicating an overload or short-circuit, the product should be unplugged, and the fuse replaced according to user servicing instructions (2.5 Amp, 125 Volt fuse, as approved by Vornado Consumer Service). If a replacement fuse blows, a short-circuit may be present, and the product should be discarded or returned for examination and/or repair.

Before plugging in, users must ensure that electrical information on the rating label (including voltage) is compatible with their outlet. The cord should never be used as a handle or yanked, strained, or stretched. Foreign objects should not be inserted into any input or output opening while the product is plugged in. A loose fit between the wall outlet and plug can cause overheating and distortion of the plug, in which case use should be discontinued, and a qualified electrician contacted. The appliance has a polarized plug, designed to fit in a polarized outlet only one way; if it doesn't fit, the plug should be reversed, and if it still doesn't fit, a qualified electrician should be contacted without attempting to defeat the safety feature.

Before moving, repositioning, servicing, cleaning, or when not in use, the product controls should be used to turn off the power, and then the device should be unplugged. Always unplug to avoid possible injury from remote activation. When disconnecting from an outlet, grasp and pull only the plug. Power off and unplug if the product will be left unattended for an extended period or during electrical storms. Prior to cleaning, turn off power and unplug. Gasoline, thinners, solvents, ammonias, or other chemicals should not be used for cleaning. The appliance housing should not be opened while the product is plugged in. All service and/or repairs must be performed by a Vornado Authorized Service Center.
