Overview

The Vornado Transom AE is a window circulator designed to enhance air circulation within indoor spaces in the United States and Canada. This device is specifically engineered for window installation, ensuring optimal performance when positioned correctly. It is not intended for commercial or industrial use, emphasizing its role as a personal comfort appliance. The Transom AE is built with a focus on user convenience and safety, incorporating several features that make it easy to install, operate, and maintain.

Function Description

The primary function of the Vornado Transom AE is to circulate air, either by drawing fresh air into a room (direct airflow) or expelling stale air out (exhaust mode). This dual functionality allows users to customize their indoor environment based on their preferences and external conditions. The device is equipped with an electronic reversible fan, enabling a quick transition between direct and exhaust modes with a single button press. This feature is particularly useful for rapid air exchange, such as clearing out cooking odors or bringing in a cool breeze.

The Transom AE also includes an integrated thermostat, which allows for automatic adjustment of airflow based on the indoor room temperature. When activated in AUTO MODE, the device will work to maintain a user-set ideal temperature, ranging from 60°F to 90°F. This intelligent operation ensures energy efficiency and consistent comfort without constant manual intervention. The temperature display is in Fahrenheit only.

For enhanced control, the device offers four speed settings: LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH, and TURBO. These settings provide varying levels of air circulation, allowing users to select the intensity that best suits their needs. The current speed is clearly indicated on the display.

Usage Features

The Vornado Transom AE is designed for horizontal installation in single-hung and double-hung windows, accommodating window widths between 26 and 40 inches and requiring a minimum opening height of 8 inches. The installation process is straightforward, emphasizing safety by recommending that one hand remain on the product at all times during installation. The device is centered in the window, with its foam base snugly secured in the window casing. The window is then closed to secure the product.

To ensure a tight seal and minimize outside noise and temperature fluctuations, the Transom AE comes with a Soft-Fit Modular Foam Block System. These optional foam blocks can be tucked securely on either side of the product into the window casing, creating an effective barrier. An extra-long 8-foot power cord provides ample length for flexible placement, and clips are provided to secure the cord as needed.

The device features intuitive touch controls for easy operation. These include an auto mode button, temperature adjustment buttons, a direct mode button, speed control buttons, and a power button. The display is designed with an auto-dimming feature, where all non-essential lights turn off after a few seconds of inactivity, leaving only the power button illuminated. This not only reduces light pollution but also conserves energy. A single touch to the control panel will "wake up" the unit, allowing for setting adjustments before the display dims again.

A significant modern feature of the Transom AE is its compatibility with Amazon Alexa. Once connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, users can control the device using voice commands through any Alexa Echo device or the Alexa App on their phone. Voice commands can be used to turn the fan on/off, set the speed, change the airflow direction (direct/exhaust), enable auto mode, and set the desired temperature. The Alexa app can also serve as a remote control. For users who wish to disconnect the device from the network or troubleshoot connectivity issues, a factory reset option is available by pressing and holding the POWER and DIRECT MODE buttons for 6 seconds until all LED lights flash.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning is essential for the Vornado Transom AE to maintain optimal performance, given the substantial amount of air it moves. The cleaning process is simple and user-friendly. Before any cleaning, it is crucial to unplug the unit to avoid any possible injury due to remote activation.

For routine cleaning, users can employ the brush attachment of a household vacuum cleaner to remove any accumulated dust from the unit. Following this, the entire unit can be wiped down with a soft cloth. It is important to note that harsh chemicals such as gasoline, thinners, solvents, or ammonias should not be used for cleaning, as these can damage the product.

The motor of the Transom AE is permanently lubricated, meaning it does not require any oiling throughout its lifespan, simplifying maintenance for the user. If the device requires service beyond basic cleaning, Vornado recommends returning the unit to an authorized service facility for examination and/or repair, ensuring that any necessary repairs are performed by qualified personnel to maintain safety and warranty validity. The product also includes an overload protection fuse, which, if blown, indicates an overload or short-circuit situation. Users are provided with instructions on how to replace this fuse, emphasizing the use of a Vornado-approved 2.5 Amp, 125 Volt fuse. If a replacement fuse blows, it suggests a more serious issue, and the product should be discarded or returned for professional inspection.
