Overview

The Vornado EV200 is an evaporative whole room humidifier designed to add moisture to indoor living spaces. It features a unique SimpleTank™ System, making the water tanks easy to carry, fill, install, clean, and monitor water levels. The unit comes with two 0.75-gallon capacity tanks.

Function Description

The EV200 operates by drawing in dry air through its Air Inlet Grill, passing it over wicks saturated with water, and then circulating the humidified air throughout the room using Vornado's signature Vortex circulation, initiated by the Air Outlet Grill. This process helps maintain a comfortable humidity level, especially in dry environments. The powerful motor ensures efficient circulation of humidified air throughout the entire room.

Usage Features

The humidifier offers intuitive controls for power, fan speed, and humidity settings.

  • Power On/Off: A single button turns the humidifier on or off.
  • Fan Speed: Users can select between HIGH or LOW fan speeds, or an AUTO mode.
    • HIGH: Provides fast humidification for larger rooms, evaporating approximately 2.6 gallons of water (+/- 10%) in 24 hours of continuous operation (assuming room conditions of 70°F and 30% relative humidity). The fan runs at high speed until the set humidity point is reached, then turns off until the humidity drops below the set point.
    • LOW: Ideal for quiet, nighttime use or smaller rooms, allowing the humidifier to run for extended periods without refilling. The fan operates at low speed until the set humidity point is reached, then turns off until the humidity drops below the set point.
    • AUTO: Offers more precise humidity control by fluctuating fan speed between high, low, and off to maintain the set humidity level with minimal fan noise. In Auto mode, only humidity settings (40%-60%) can be adjusted, and Continuous mode is disabled.
  • Humidistat: Reads the room's humidity for automatic control.
  • Humidity Control: Users can set the desired humidity level between 40% and 60%, or choose CONTINUOUS operation. The humidifier will run until the set humidity level is reached, at which point the fan turns off, but the Humidity Level indicator light remains on. If the fan doesn't turn on, it may indicate that the room humidity is already at or above the set level. Increasing the set point should activate the fan. In Continuous mode, users can only cycle through High and Low fan speeds before the unit powers off, and Auto mode is disabled.
  • LED Indicator Lights: Display the current settings for easy monitoring.
  • Initial Setup: Before operation, the humidifier should be placed on a water-resistant surface and checked for leaks by filling the water tanks and base. When initially installed or at the start of a season, the humidifier may run constantly for a day or so to stabilize the home's humidity.
  • Water Tank Filling: The SimpleTank™ System allows for easy removal and refilling of the water tanks. The cap is removed by turning it counterclockwise, and the tank is filled with cool tap water. The gasket (rubber ring) must be properly positioned, and the cap tightened clockwise until arrows align with indicator lines. The tank is then lowered into the base, which opens the water outlet valve, releasing water into the base.
  • Wick Replacement: Wicks typically last 4–8 weeks, depending on usage and water hardness. They should be replaced when they become hard and no longer absorb water effectively. Genuine Vornado Wicks are recommended for optimal performance. The process involves turning off and unplugging the unit, removing the water tanks and humidifier body, discarding old wicks, installing new wicks (slightly bent to match the unit's curve and flush against the bottom and side), and then reassembling the unit. Wicks contain an antimicrobial preservative, and hands should be washed after handling. Hard water or chemically softened water can shorten wick life; using untreated or distilled water, or Bacteriostat/Water Treatment, can help. A mild odor on first use is normal and can be reduced by soaking the wick in a white vinegar solution. Vornado offers an Automatic Refill Program for convenient wick replacements.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning is crucial for air quality and performance.

  • Cleaning the Base:
    1. Turn off and unplug the humidifier.
    2. Remove water tanks and the humidifier body from the base.
    3. Remove the wicks.
    4. Unlock wick support frame lock tabs by rotating them counterclockwise and lift to detach the frame from the base.
    5. Empty the base and clean both the base and wick support frame with warm water and a mild detergent, then rinse and dry. The base and wick support frame are not dishwasher safe.
    6. Reassemble, ensuring the power cord is locked flat into the power cord tab inside the power head and the wick support frame is locked into base tabs.
  • Disinfecting the Base (if algae/bacteria growth occurs):
    1. Mix 1 teaspoon chlorine bleach with 1 gallon of water.
    2. Fill the base with the solution, wetting all surfaces. The remaining solution can be used to rinse or soak the wick support frame.
    3. Let stand for 20 minutes, then empty.
    4. Rinse the base and wick support frame thoroughly with water until the bleach smell is gone, then dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. The entire humidifier surface can also be wiped with a soft cloth.
  • Cleaning the Water Tank: Wipe down the water tank with a mild detergent and cool water to remove impurities. Do not use gasoline, thinners, solvents, or other chemicals, and the tank is not dishwasher safe.
  • Cleaning the Grill:
    1. Turn off and unplug the humidifier.
    2. Remove the screw at the 6 o'clock position inside the grill using a Phillips Head screwdriver.
    3. Twist the grill counterclockwise to unlock, then use the screwdriver to lift it.
    4. Clean the grill, blade, or underside of the motor with a soft cloth or compressed air.
    5. Reinstall the grill by twisting it clockwise until screw holes align, then replace the screw.
  • Storage: For off-season storage, clean the humidifier, ensure it is completely dry (do not store with water or wet wicks), cover it or place it back in its retail carton to prevent dust accumulation, and store it in a cool, dry location.

Important Notes:

  • Avoid placing the humidifier where it blows directly on objects or plants.
  • Ensure adequate water supply by checking the water tank daily if operating continuously.
  • Keep the grill unobstructed for optimum airflow, ensuring curtains or other items are far from the side inlets.
  • Do not use additives like aroma fragrances or water conditioners, as they can cause cracks in the plastic and void the warranty.
  • The product is designed, engineered, and supported in the USA.
