Overview

The Vornado UH100 is an ultrasonic whole-room humidifier designed to add moisture to indoor living spaces. It features Vornado's signature Vortex circulation, which disperses humidified air throughout the entire room, ensuring even distribution of moisture. The humidifier is intended for use in the United States and Canada and is not suitable for commercial or industrial applications.

Function Description:

The primary function of the UH100 is to humidify the air. It uses ultrasonic technology to create a fine mist that is then circulated by a powerful motor. The device includes a humidistat that reads the room's humidity level, allowing for automatic humidity control. Users can set the desired humidity level between 40% and 60% or choose a continuous operation mode. The humidifier also offers three fan speed settings: HIGH for fast humidification of larger rooms, LOW for quiet, nighttime use or smaller rooms, and AUTO mode for precise humidity control, where fan speed and mist output fluctuate to maintain the set humidity level with minimal noise. The unit will automatically shut off when it runs out of water, indicated by the need for a refill.

Usage Features:

The UH100 is designed for ease of use and convenience. Before initial operation, it's crucial to soak the Mineral Cartridge in water for 24 hours. The humidifier should be placed on a level surface, away from objects or plants that could be directly affected by the mist.

  • SimpleTank™ System: This system features a large 1-gallon water tank that is easy to carry, fill, install, and clean. The water level is also easily viewable.
  • Filling the Water Tank: To fill, the tank is removed from the base by grasping its integrated handle and pulling it upwards. It is then turned upside down, and the cap is removed by turning it counterclockwise. After filling with cool tap water, the cap is re-secured by turning it clockwise until the arrows on the tank align with the indicator lines on the cap, ensuring a waterproof seal. The filled tank is then lowered back into the base, where a water outlet valve opens to release water into the base.
  • Controls: The device features a power button to turn the humidifier on/off. An output button allows selection of HIGH, LOW, or AUTO fan speeds. LED indicator lights display the current settings for both fan speed and humidity level. The humidity can be controlled using a dedicated button, allowing users to choose between 40%, 45%, 50%, 55%, 60% humidity, or continuous operation.
  • Mineral Cartridge: The humidifier includes a Mineral Cartridge that removes minerals from the water, softening it and reducing mineral buildup on the Transducer. This helps prevent the accumulation of white powder residue. The cartridge needs to be replaced periodically, with recommendations ranging from once a month for heavy use to every two months for lighter use. An automatic refill program is available for convenient replacement cartridge delivery.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining air quality and the humidifier's performance. The frequency of cleaning depends on usage, water hardness, and environmental factors.

  • Cleaning the Base:
    1. Turn off and unplug the humidifier.
    2. Remove the Water Tank, then lift the main body from the base. The Mist Outlet and Mist Tube can then be pulled out.
    3. Remove the humidifier body from the base.
    4. Empty the base and clean it with warm water and a mild detergent.
    5. A cleaning brush, stored at the bottom of the base, can be used to reach hard-to-clean areas and remove debris from the water trough.
    6. Rinse and dry the base thoroughly before reassembling. The base is not dishwasher safe.
  • Disinfecting the Base: In cases where disinfection is needed, a solution of 1 teaspoon chlorine bleach and 1 gallon of water can be used. Fill the base with this solution, wet all surfaces, let it stand for 20 minutes, then empty and rinse until the bleach smell is gone.
  • Cleaning the Grille:
    1. Turn off and unplug the humidifier.
    2. Remove the Mist Outlet. Using a Phillips Head screwdriver, remove the screw at the 6 o'clock position inside the grille. Twist the grille counterclockwise to unlock, then use the screwdriver to lift it.
    3. Clean the grille, blade, or underside of the motor with a soft cloth or compressed air.
    4. Reinstall the grille by twisting it clockwise until the screw holes align, then replace the screw.
  • Cleaning the Mist Outlet & Mist Tube: While the humidifier is disassembled, these parts can be rinsed with clean tap water. It's important to ensure both parts are attached before resuming operation.
  • Water Tank Cleaning: The Water Tank may occasionally need to be wiped down or cleaned to remove impurities using a mild detergent and cool water. It is not dishwasher safe.
  • Storage: For off-season storage, the humidifier should be unplugged, allowed to dry completely (without water in the tank or base), and then covered or placed back in its retail carton to prevent dust accumulation. It should be stored in a cool, dry location.

Important Safety and Usage Notes:

  • Never use the cord as a handle or stretch it.
  • Avoid inserting foreign objects into openings while the product is plugged in.
  • Address loose wall outlets or plugs immediately by contacting a qualified electrician.
  • The polarized plug is a safety feature and should not be defeated.
  • Allow the appliance to cool for at least 30 minutes before moving, refilling, or emptying.
  • Empty all water and dry the unit before storing.
  • Turn off the humidifier if relative humidity exceeds 60% to prevent moisture buildup and mold growth.
  • Do not use gasoline, thinners, solvents, ammonias, or other chemicals for cleaning.
  • Do not open the appliance housing while plugged in; all service should be done by a Vornado Authorized Service Center.
  • Avoid using additives like aroma fragrances or water conditioners, as they can damage the plastic and void the warranty.
  • If white powder residue accumulates, it indicates that the Mineral Cartridge needs replacement or that the unit and Transducer need cleaning. Using distilled water can help if the tap water is too hard.
