Overview

The Dentsply Ceramco Vulcan 3-Series Burnout Furnaces are multi-stage programmable furnaces designed for various dental laboratory applications such as wax burnout, material ashing, material heat treating, ceramic firing, glass seal firing, and material oxidizing.

Function Description:

These furnaces are designed to provide precise temperature control and multi-stage programming for burnout and other heat treatment processes. They feature a programmable controller with 9 three-stage programs (each with 6 segments) and 1 program with a single temperature hold. The furnaces offer a wide operating temperature range from 50°C (122°F) to 1100°C (2012°F) with 1° resolution. Programmable linear temperature rates, both positive and negative, can be set from 0.1 to 40°C/minute (0.1°C resolution). The delay start operation allows users to program the cycle completion time, eliminating the need to calculate the start time. Programs can be linked for 6-stage operation, providing flexibility for complex processes. An integrated door safety switch breaks both sides of the power line to the muffle when the door is opened, enhancing safety.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Temperature Range: 50°C (122°F) - 1100°C (2012°F) / 1° Resolution
  • Hold Time Range: 0:00 - 99:59 (hours:minutes) / 1 Min Resolution
  • Ramp Rate Range: 0 - 40.0°C/minute (72°F) / 0.1°C Resolution
  • Temperature Accuracy: ± 5°C (± 9°F) at steady state
  • Muffle Temperature Uniformity: ± 8°C (± 15°F) at steady state
  • Electrical (Model dependent):

  • Muffle: High Performance / Hybrid Muffle, offering longer life, durability, faster heating, and faster cooling. Individual muffle heating plate replacement is possible.
  • Door: Smooth, low force vertical lift door with roll-back action for maximum access with minimum vertical space. Power operated door with automatic timed closing is available on 3-550PD models.

Usage Features:

  • User-Friendly Interface: Easy to operate and program with a graphic interface.
  • Programmable Programs: 9 three-stage programs and 1 single temperature hold program, with parameters retained in memory even after power loss.
  • Delay Start: Allows programming the completion time of a cycle up to 7 days in advance.
  • Program Linking: Programs can be linked to run automatically in sequence for up to 6 stages (12 segments).
  • Air Exchange Operation (Air Exchange Models Only): Utilizes a venturi principle to draw air out of the muffle, with preheated make-up air for temperature uniformity. Fan settings range from 0 (off) to 9 (full on), providing up to approximately 5 air exchanges per minute.
  • Power Door (3-550PD only): Remote activation switch to open/close the door. The door can also be programmed to close automatically after a set time during a firing cycle.
  • Safety Features: Integrated door safety switch, warning against operating near combustible materials, proper grounding requirements, and recommendations for personal protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves) during operation and muffle replacement.

Maintenance Features:

  • Muffle Service: Easy and lower cost muffle service, with individual muffle heating plate replacement.
  • Cleaning: Recommended to vacuum dust and dirt from the furnace and use a soft damp cloth to clean the control panel, avoiding excess water or solutions that could damage electronics.
  • Calibration: Factory calibrated at 1000°C. Temperature adjustment/calibration can be performed in Setup mode by entering a new Tcal value (range 900-1100°C) if high accuracy is required, especially after thermocouple replacement.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues and error codes, including over temperature, open thermocouple, temperature exceeding TMAX, brown-out, EEPROM error, and line frequency issues. It also addresses problems like the furnace not operating, not heating, door issues, slow heating, and premature program termination.
