Overview

This document provides assembly instructions and important information for a Twin over Twin Bunk Bed, which can also be converted into two single Twin beds. The product is manufactured by Walker Edison Furniture Co., LLC.

Function Description:

The primary function of this device is to serve as a bunk bed, providing two sleeping surfaces in a stacked configuration, suitable for children or individuals requiring space-saving solutions. The design allows for the conversion of the bunk bed into two independent single Twin beds, offering flexibility in room arrangement and usage as needs change. The bunk bed includes guardrails for the upper bunk and a ladder for access, ensuring safety and ease of use.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Mattress Dimensions (Upper Bunk): 74 - 75 inches (L) x 37.5 - 38 inches (W) x 8 inches (H).
  • Recommended Mattress Dimensions (Lower Bunk): Same as the upper bunk.
  • Mattress Surface to Guardrail Edge: Must be at least 5 inches (127mm) below the upper edge of the guardrails.
  • Maximum Mattress Thickness: 8 inches.
  • Upper Guardrail Support (15) to Crossbeam (14) and Guardrails (13) distance: 37 inches (925mm).
  • Second Guardrail Support (15) to Crossbeam (12) and Guardrails (17) distance: 29 inches (734mm).

Usage Features:

  • Bunk Bed Configuration (Option A): The bed is designed to be assembled as a twin over twin bunk bed. The lower bunk should be the one with warning stickers.
  • Conversion to Two Single Twin Beds (Option B): The bunk bed can be disassembled and reconfigured into two separate single twin beds. This involves loosening specific hardware, removing the ladder, separating the upper and lower bunks, and then reassembling the headboard/footboard posts and crossbeams for each single bed.
  • Safety Features:
    • Guardrails are mandatory on both long sides of the upper bunk.
    • If placed against a wall, the full-length guardrail must be positioned against the wall to prevent entrapment.
    • The ladder must always be used for entering and leaving the upper bunk.
    • Prohibition of water or sleep flotation mattresses.
    • Prohibition of children under 6 years of age from using the upper bunk.
    • Prohibition of horseplay, jumping on the bed, and more than one person on the upper bunk.
    • Warning against attaching or hanging items not designed for use with the bunk bed (e.g., hooks, belts, jump ropes) to prevent strangulation hazards.
    • Recommendation for using a night light for added safety for a child using the upper bunk.
  • Mattress Support: The bed uses joint slats (16) as mattress supports, secured with Phillips head wood screws (D). Spacers (J) are used in conjunction with these screws for proper installation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Periodic Checks: Users are instructed to periodically check and ensure that the guardrail, ladder, and other components are in their proper position, free from damage, and that all connectors are tight.
  • Replacement Parts: Replacement parts, including additional guardrails, can be obtained from Walker Edison Furniture Company's dealers or through their website (www.walkeredison.com).
  • No Substitute Parts: Users are explicitly warned not to use substitute parts and to contact the manufacturer or dealer for replacement parts.
  • Warning Label: The warning label on the bed must not be removed.
