SPECIFIC RULES FOR THE SHARPENER
11.. Do not use in damp conditions. Do not expose to rain.
12. Only use accessories that are recommended by WEN for this model.
13. Only use grinding wheels rated for a speed higher than the maximum RPM of the tool.
14. Never attempt to cut anything with the grinding wheel.
15. Do not use a wheel that vibrates. Make sure grinding wheels are dressed properly. If a wheel vibrates, it may
be that the bearings of the shaft need replacing also. Never use a questionable grinding wheel, as the RPM of the
machine can send broken wheel fragments flying at high speeds.
16. Inspect wheels for cracks or fragments before starting the machine. Replace damaged wheels immediately.
17. Adjust tool rests and water reservoir as necessary, keeping them close to the grinding wheel. Continue to make
adjustments as the wheel wears down.
18. Make sure the unit has been properly mounted to a bench or a stand before starting the motor.
19. Never grind on a cold wheel. Run the sharpener for one full minute before applying the workpiece. Cold wheels
have an increased likelihood of chipping during operation.
20. Never start the machine with any load already applied to either grinding wheel.
21. Keep arms, hands and other vital appendages away from the wheel. The abrasive surfaces can cause injury to
the user. Avoid awkward operation and hand positions. An accident could easily send the operator’s hand into the
wheel.
22. Clean the machine thoroughly when changing material types in workpieces. Combining certain materials can
increase the chances of an explosion or fire hazard. Do not grind or polish magnesium. Fire will result.
23. Never grind near flammable gas or liquids. Sparks may ignite any such substances nearby.
24. Dress the wheel on the face only. Dressing the sides of a wheel can make it too thin for safe operation.
25. Only grind a workpiece with the face of a grinding wheel.
26. Never apply coolant directly to the grinding wheel. Coolant weakens the structural integrity of the wheel and
can cause it to fail. Dip the workpiece in water to cool it off as necessary. Make sure a workpiece has been cooled
sufficiently before touching it.
