BELT SANDER PLATEN
The platen (p. 13, Fig. 8 - 4) is the steel support plate that
is positioned behind the sanding belt and underneath the
sanding belt table. It rises from the body of the sander to
a point several inches above the belt table’s surface. The
platen provides the necessary support to the workpiece
during sanding operations. It should be adjusted so that it
is almost touching the back of the sanding belt.
To adjust the platen:
1. Make sure the switch is in the OFF position and the cord
is disconnected from the power source.
2. You will need to remove the locking lever and belt table
to access the hex screws that hold the platen in place.
3. Loosen the two hex screws (Fig. 10) that secure the
platen to the sander’s frame. Adjust the platen so that it is
almost touching the back of the belt. Re-tighten both hex
screws.
TESTING THE MACHINE
Once you have properly assembled the machine, perform a test run to see that everything powers up and runs cor-
rectly.
All of the tools for assembly and adjustments should be removed and cleared away before turning on the machine.
During the test run, make sure the ON/OFF switch along with all safety features are working properly before apply-
ing a load.
After connecting the machine to the correct power source, stand to the side of the machine and power it on. During
the test run, take note of any unusual noises, vibrations or rattling. If any of these occur, turn off the machine and
unplug it from the power source immediately. Check all the parts you have assembled and try to find the problem.
