HEATER DEFAULT SETTING:
The default factory setting for your thermostat is 72 degrees. If your room temperature is already 72 degrees
or above, then your heater will shut OFF after about 3 minutes. See thermostat directions for how to adjust
the temperature settings in order to keep your heater ON until your desired room temperature is reached.

Overview

This document is a Use and Care Guide for a Whalen Quantum Flame combination electric fireplace/heater.

Function Description:

The device is an electric fireplace and heater designed to provide both aesthetic ambiance and warmth. It features a combination of flame effects and a heating function, which can be operated independently or together. The unit includes a control panel and a remote control for managing its various functions. It is intended for indoor use and should not be used outdoors or in wet environments.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Grounding: The product must be grounded and is equipped with a 3-prong grounding plug for use with 120-volt circuits. An adapter can be used for 2-slot receptacles, but the green grounding lug must be connected to a permanent ground.
  • Thermostat: Features a thermostat limiter that cuts off power if the inner temperature overheats or abnormal heating occurs. The default factory setting for the thermostat is 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Safety Certifications: Bears the cCSAus mark, indicating compliance with safety standards.
  • Remote Control: Operates on AAA batteries.

Usage Features:

  • Control Panel: Located on the top left corner of the fireplace/heater unit, it includes a display unit (1), function indicator (2), timer function (3), heater control (4), flames control (5), and main power (6).
  • Display Unit (1): Shows information about flame level, timer, and current temperature.
  • Function Indicator (2): Has three square LEDs (red, green, blue) to indicate Fahrenheit heating (red), Celsius heating (green), and timer function (blue). An infrared receiver module communicates with the remote control.
  • Heater Control (4):
    • Turns the heat function on/off.
    • No speed setting for the heater blower.
    • Temperature Conversion: To switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius, with the heater on, press and release the heater button (4), then press and hold the main power button (6) for five seconds. The LED indicator flashes five times (red for Fahrenheit, green for Celsius).
    • Thermostat Adjustment: To set the thermostat temperature, turn on the heater, then press and hold the heater button (4) for five seconds. The display (1) flashes, and the temperature can be adjusted between 62°F - 82°F (17°C - 27°C) or ON.
    • Heater Lock: To lock the heating function in the OFF position, press and hold the heater button (4) for ten seconds with the main power button on. The log lights flash, indicating the function is locked. Only glowing logs and flame control will operate. To unlock, repeat the process.
    • Cool-down: After shutoff, the blower continues to run for several minutes to cool internal components.
  • Timer Function (3):
    • Sets the duration for the fireplace/heater to run, controlling both flames and heater if active.
    • Intervals: 30 Minutes, 1 Hour, 2 Hours, 3 Hours, 4 Hours, 5 Hours, 6 Hours, or OFF.
    • The blue LED light turns on when the timer function is engaged.
    • No clock function for specific on/off times.
  • Flame Control (5):
    • Adjusts flame brightness levels: High (L4), Medium (L3), Low (L2), Flames Off (L1), All Off (None).
    • Default flame setting upon power-on is L4 (High).
    • Log Glow Mode: To lock the flame function in the OFF position (no flames, only glowing logs), with the flame in L4 mode, press and hold the flame button (5) for five seconds. The log lights flash. Pressing the flame button in sequence adjusts log brightness levels (L4-L1 for glowing logs, None for logs off).
    • To unlock, press and hold the flame button (5) for five seconds.
  • Main Power (6): Turns the fireplace/heater unit on and off.
  • Demo Mode: For retail use, activated by a rocker switch on the back of the fireplace (position "I" for on, "O" for off). Deactivates the heater and all front control panel buttons except the flame control button. Shipped with demo mode off for normal customer usage.
  • Remote Control Usage:
    • Buttons mirror the control panel: Main Power, Heater Up, Heater Down, Heater Control, Flames Control, Timer Control.
    • Cannot lock/unlock flame or heating functions, or switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius.
    • Requires two AAA batteries.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Always disconnect from power supply before cleaning.
    • Use a soft, clean cloth for dusting.
    • Use a soft cloth dampened with warm water for cleaning the fireplace surface; avoid household or abrasive cleaners.
    • For the glass viewing screen, use a non-abrasive damp cloth with liquid cleaner or soft soap; avoid cleaning powders or abrasives.
    • Do not operate with a broken or chipped glass panel.
    • Do not strike or slam the glass.
  • Lubrication: The blower motor and flame motor are pre-lubricated and require no further lubrication or maintenance.
  • Fan Heater Grille: Occasionally clean the outlet grille of the fan heater with a soft brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner to remove dust or debris.
  • Water Damage: If any part of the fireplace insert has been under water, immediately call a qualified service technician.
  • Storage: Unplug the cord from the outlet when not in use to prevent damage or accidents.
  • Battery Replacement:
    • Do not mix old and new batteries, or alkaline, standard (carbon zinc), or rechargeable (nicad, nimh, etc.) batteries.
    • Insert batteries with correct polarity.
    • Remove exhausted batteries.
    • Purchase correct size and grade of battery.
    • Replace all batteries of a set at the same time.
    • Clean battery contacts before installation.
    • Remove batteries if not used for an extended period.
    • Dispose of batteries at a suitable recycling point.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a detailed troubleshooting section for common issues such as:

  • Inability to adjust temperature.
  • Fireplace stopping heating prematurely.
  • No heat or power, with only the flame button working (indicates Demo Mode).
  • Remote control not working.
  • Heater button causing logs to flash (indicates heater lock).
