Overview

This document is an owner's manual for a freestanding gas range, providing comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance. It is designed to ensure safe and efficient use of the appliance, with sections tailored for installers and homeowners.

Function Description:

The freestanding gas range is a kitchen appliance designed for cooking with gas burners on the top surface and a gas oven for baking and broiling. It utilizes an electronic ignition system for lighting burners, eliminating the need for standing pilots. The range is convertible between natural gas and propane gas, allowing flexibility based on the user's gas supply. Some models may include a warming drawer or premium storage drawer for added functionality.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Gas Supply: The range operates on either natural gas or propane gas.
    • Natural Gas: Minimum pressure: 5" (12.7 cm) WCP; Maximum pressure: 14" (35.5 cm) WCP.
    • Propane Gas: Minimum pressure: 11" (27.9 cm) WCP; Maximum pressure: 14" (35.5 cm) WCP.
    • Burner input ratings are shown on the model/serial/rating plate for elevations up to 2,000 ft (609.6 m). For higher elevations, ratings are reduced by 4% for every 1,000 ft (304.8 m) above sea level (not applicable for Canada).
  • Electrical Requirements: 120 V, 60 Hz, AC only, 15 A fused, grounded electrical circuit is required. A time-delay fuse or circuit breaker is recommended. The appliance is equipped with a three-prong grounding plug.
  • Clearances:
    • Minimum opening width: 30" (76.2 cm).
    • Minimum clearance from both sides of range to side wall or other combustible material: 3" (7.6 cm).
    • Minimum clearance from cooking platform to bottom of uncovered wood or metal cabinet: 30" (76.2 cm).
    • Minimum clearance from cooking platform to bottom of wood or metal cabinet shielded by flame retardant millboard and sheet steel: 24" (61.0 cm).
  • Anti-Tip Bracket: Essential for safety, preventing the range from tipping over. It must be securely installed to the floor or wall.
  • Gas Pressure Regulator: Supplied with the range and must be used.
  • Flexible Gas Connector: If used, must not exceed 4 feet (121.9 cm) in Massachusetts.

Usage Features:

  • Electronic Ignition System: Cooktop and oven burners light automatically when control knobs are turned to the "LITE" position. Sparking continues as long as the knob is in "LITE."
  • Manual Ignition (Power Failure): Surface burners can be lit manually with a match during a power outage.
  • Flame Height Adjustment: Top burner flames should be a steady blue flame, approximately 1/4" (6.4 mm) high for low settings. The flame can be adjusted using a screw in the center of the valve stem under the control knob.
  • Self-Cleaning Cycle: Allows for automated cleaning of the oven interior. Different durations (2, 3, 4 hours) are available depending on the soil level. The oven door locks during this cycle.
  • AquaLift® Technology/Steam Clean (on some models): A cleaning function that uses water to help remove baked-on soils.
  • Warming Drawer/Premium Storage Drawer (on some models): Provides additional space for keeping food warm or for storage.
  • Oven Door: Removable for cleaning and maintenance.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning: Instructions are provided for cleaning external surfaces (porcelain enamel, stainless steel), cooktop, grates, and oven interior.
  • Self-Cleaning Cycle: The manual details how to initiate and manage the self-cleaning cycle, including precautions like removing oven racks and excessive spillage.
  • Gas Conversion: Detailed instructions for converting the range from natural gas to propane gas, and vice versa, including changing orifice spuds for surface, bake, and broil burners. This process must be performed by a qualified service agency.
  • Burner Maintenance: Instructions for proper placement of burner caps and bases, and checking for correct flame appearance.
  • Anti-Tip Bracket Verification: Regular checks are recommended to ensure the anti-tip bracket is properly installed and engaged, especially after moving the range.
  • Leveling the Range: Instructions for adjusting the leveling legs to ensure the range is level for satisfactory baking performance and cleaning results.
  • Gas Leak Detection: Recommends using a UL or CSA approved gas detector and provides steps to take if a gas leak is suspected.
  • Ventilation System: Advises against installing ventilation systems that blow air downward toward the appliance to prevent ignition and combustion problems.
  • Replacement Parts: Emphasizes using only manufacturer-recommended replacement parts.
