Overview

This document describes a Whirlpool Microwave Hood Combination appliance, designed for heating, cooking, or drying food. It is not intended for industrial or laboratory use.

Function Description:

The Whirlpool Microwave Hood Combination serves as both a microwave oven and a ventilating hood. As a microwave, it is designed for various cooking functions, including manual cooking, stage cooking, and sensor cooking. The hood function includes a vent fan with multiple speeds (High to Low and Off) that can operate automatically as a cooling fan during any cook function or manually. It also features an Auto Vent Fan and Dynamic Fan Sensing (on some models) that automatically turn on at various speeds to prevent overheating when the range or cooktop below gets too hot. The appliance is suitable for use above both gas and electric cooking equipment, with a maximum width of 36" (91.44 cm).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Supply: 120-volt, 60 Hz, AC-only, 15- or 20-amp electrical supply with a fuse or circuit breaker.
  • Grounding: Must be properly grounded with a 3-prong outlet.
  • Clock: 12-hour (12:00-11:59) or 24-hour (0:00-23:59) format.
  • Vent Fan: Multiple speeds (High to Low and Off), with a Vent Timer for 30-minute operation or 30 minutes more.
  • Cooktop Light: Replaceable bulb located on the underside.
  • Cavity Light: Replaceable bulb located behind the vent grille.
  • Turntable: Can be turned off for manual cooking only.
  • 6th SENSE™ System: A sensor detects moisture released from food and adjusts cooking time.

Usage Features:

  • Manual Cooking/Stage Cooking: Allows users to set cook time and power level (10-90) for up to three stages.
  • Sensor Cooking: Automatically adjusts cooking time based on moisture detected from food. Requires a microwave-safe dish with a loose-fitting lid or plastic wrap.
  • Add More Time: Allows adding additional cook time at the end of a cycle. Cook power defaults to 100% but can be changed.
  • Doneness: Adjustable for automatic cooking functions (Normal, More Done, Less Done) within the first 20 seconds of a cycle, except for Defrost functions.
  • Warm Hold: Keeps cooked food warm at 10% cook power. Can be programmed to follow a cooking cycle or used independently.
  • Timer: Can be set in Standby mode and runs concurrently with cook functions.
  • Control Lock: Activates to prevent unintended starts by holding the Cancel control for 3 seconds.
  • Options/Clock Menu: Provides access to various settings:
    • Clock & Energy Save: Set clock format and activate Energy Save mode.
    • Scrolling Speed: Adjusts the speed of display text.
    • Sound (Tones): Turn programming tones or all tones on/off.
    • Language: Change display text to English or French (on some models).
    • Auto Vent Fan/Fan Timer: Configure vent fan operation.
    • Filter Reset: Reset filter status after cleaning/replacing.
    • Light Timer: Set cooktop light to turn on/off at specific times (12-hour clock only).
    • Demo Mode: Activates a practice mode without magnetron operation.
    • Factory Reset: Resets all settings to factory defaults.
  • Cooking Rack: Rectangular rack for 2-level cooking. Must be removed after 2-level cooking to prevent damage.
  • Standby Mode: Oven dims LCD brightness after 5 minutes of inactivity to conserve energy.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning:
    • Cavity: Clean with mild soap, water, and a soft cloth/sponge. For nonstick cavity coating, avoid metal/sharp utensils, abrasive cleansers, or scrubbers.
    • Grease Filter: Clean monthly or as prompted by Filter Status indicator with mild soap and water or in a dishwasher.
    • Door and Exterior: Clean with mild soap and water, or glass cleaner on a paper towel.
    • Control Panel: Clean with a sponge, soft cloth, and water.
    • Stainless Steel (on some models): Clean with mild soap and water, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth, or use stainless steel cleaner.
    • Turntable: Clean with mild soap and water or in a dishwasher.
    • Rack(s): Clean with mild soap, water, and a washcloth. Dishwasher cleaning is not recommended.
  • Filter Replacement:
    • Grease Filters: Located on the underside of the microwave oven. Slide out to remove, slide in to reinstall.
    • Charcoal Filter: Located behind the vent grille at the top front. Cannot be cleaned, should be replaced every 6 months. Remove 2 screws, slide vent grille left, tilt forward, lift out, and remove filter. Reinstall in reverse order.
  • Light Bulb Replacement:
    • Cooktop Light: Located on the underside. Remove bulb cover screw, open cover, replace bulb, close cover, and secure.
    • Cavity Light: Located behind the vent grille. Remove 2 screws, slide vent grille left, tilt forward, lift out, open bulb cover, replace bulb, close cover, and reinstall vent grille.
  • Filter Status Indicator (on some models): Appears in the display to prompt cleaning/replacement of filters. Reset via the "Settings" section.

Safety Precautions:

  • Do not operate with a damaged cord, plug, or if the oven is malfunctioning.
  • Service by qualified personnel only.
  • Do not cover or block openings.
  • Do not store outdoors or near water.
  • Do not immerse cord or plug in water.
  • Keep cord away from heated surfaces and off table/counter edges.
  • Do not overcook food; attend oven when using combustible materials.
  • Remove wire twist-ties from bags.
  • If materials ignite, keep door closed, turn off oven, and disconnect power.
  • Do not use cavity for storage.
  • Liquids can overheat; stir before and halfway through heating, use non-straight-sided containers, allow to stand, and use extreme care when inserting utensils.
  • Do not mount over a sink.
  • Do not store items on top of the oven during operation.
  • Clean ventilating hoods and filters frequently.
  • Turn fan on when flambéing foods.
  • Use care when cleaning vent-hood filter; avoid corrosive cleaning agents.
  • PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID POSSIBLE EXPOSURE TO EXCESSIVE MICROWAVE ENERGY: Do not operate with an open door, do not defeat safety interlocks, do not place objects between oven front face and door, do not operate if damaged (door, hinges, latches, seals). Adjustments/repairs only by qualified service personnel.
