Overview

The Whynter Dual Zone Touch Control Stainless Steel Freestanding Wine Cooler is a premium appliance designed for the optimal storage and cooling of wines. It offers an innovative design that makes it a centerpiece in any living space, whether it's an office, a yacht, or a home. The primary function of this wine cooler is to preserve wine with vibration-free thermoelectric cooling, ensuring that delicate wine sediment remains undisturbed. Its sleek countertop design and stainless steel door contribute to a stylish and compact solution for wine preservation.

Function Description

The wine cooler operates using thermoelectric technology, which is known for its minimal noise and vibration. This is crucial for wine storage as excessive vibration can agitate the wine's sediment, affecting its quality and aging process. The appliance features a soft-touch digital control panel that provides intuitive and precise temperature control, allowing users to set and maintain ideal conditions for their wine collection.

The unit is designed with two separate temperature zones, enabling the storage of different types of wine at their respective optimal temperatures. The temperature range for the upper zone can be set between 54°F and 66°F, while the bottom zone can be adjusted from 46°F to 66°F. This dual-zone capability ensures that both red and white wines can be stored simultaneously under their preferred conditions. To set the desired temperature, users simply press the "Up" or "Down" buttons on the control panel. The temperature display will flash for 5 seconds to confirm the setting before reverting to the actual internal temperature. It's important to note that the internal temperature of the wine cooler is influenced by the ambient room temperature.

An interior LED light is integrated into the unit, which can be turned on or off by pressing the "Light" button on the control panel. If a zone divider is installed, only the upper zone will be illuminated when the interior light is activated. This feature allows for easy viewing of the wine collection without exposing the wines to harmful external light.

The wine cooler is a freestanding appliance, meaning it is designed to stand alone and should not be placed into a built-in space. Proper placement is essential for optimal performance, with a recommended ambient temperature range of 68°F to 78°F. Temperatures outside this range can affect the unit's performance, causing interior temperatures to fluctuate and potentially preventing the achievement of the set temperature.

Usage Features

The Whynter wine cooler is equipped with removable, scalloped stainless steel shelves. These shelves are designed to securely hold wine bottles and can be adjusted or removed for flexible storage options. For easy access to wine bottles, the shelves can be pulled out approximately 1½ inches from the railing. When removing shelves completely, it is recommended to first remove all items from the shelf and then carefully pull the shelf forward through the rail. To prevent damage to the door gasket, ensure the door is fully open when pulling out the shelves.

The appliance features leveling legs at the bottom, which are crucial for stable operation. It is important for the unit to be perfectly level to function correctly. Users can adjust the height of the feet by rotating them to raise or lower the corresponding side of the refrigerator. A carpenter's level can be used to check if the appliance is level from front to back and side to side.

The recommended temperature settings for various wine types are provided to guide users in optimizing their wine storage. For conservation, a range of 49°F to 57°F is suggested. Red wines are best stored between 58°F and 72°F, while dry/white wines thrive in temperatures from 48°F to 57°F. Rose wines are recommended to be stored between 49°F and 51°F.

The unit incorporates an auto-defrost system, which generally eliminates the need for manual defrosting under most ambient conditions. However, in cold ambient temperatures or high humidity, some frost may build up. In such cases, manual defrosting may be required. To defrost, all items should be removed, the wine cooler unplugged, and the door left open to allow the frost to melt. It is explicitly advised never to use a knife or other metal instrument to scrape ice or frost.

For transportation, it is recommended to use the original packaging to protect the wine cooler from damage. If the unit needs to be moved or stored for a long period, it should be defrosted and its interior dried. The power plug should be disconnected from the wall socket, and the door left open to allow for air circulation and prevent the buildup of mold, mildew, and unpleasant smells.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the Whynter wine cooler. Before any cleaning or maintenance operations, the appliance must be unplugged to prevent electric shock or personal injury.

To clean the interior, door seal, and inside of the glass, a clean, damp cloth should be used. It is important to avoid using detergents or other substances that emit odors, as these can penetrate the appliance and affect the wine. The door should always be kept closed when cleaning the exterior to prevent detergent odors from entering the unit. The side panels and door surfaces can be cleaned with a clean, soft, moist cloth or a microfiber cloth.

The humidity tray should be hand-washed with water and detergent, ensuring it is thoroughly rinsed with clean water before being replaced.

For short vacations (less than two days), the appliance can be left operating. For longer vacations, if the appliance will not be used for an extended period, all items should be removed, the unit turned off, and the interior thoroughly cleaned and dried.

When moving the appliance, all items inside should be removed. Loose items, such as shelves, should be securely taped down (painter's tape is recommended) to prevent damage. The adjustable legs should be turned up to the base to avoid damage, and the door should be taped shut. During transportation, the appliance should remain in an upright position and be protected with a blanket or similar item.

Energy-saving tips are provided to help users minimize power consumption. The appliance should be located in the coolest area of the room, away from heat-producing appliances and direct sunlight. Adequate ventilation is crucial, and air vents should never be obstructed. Keeping the door tightly closed and avoiding frequent or prolonged openings helps maintain a stable internal temperature. Storing contents in an organized manner and avoiding over-filling the appliance allows for proper air circulation, contributing to efficient operation.

In case of power loss or if the wine cooler is unplugged or turned off, a waiting period of 3 to 5 minutes is required before restarting the unit. When the wine cooler is used for the first time or restarted after a long period of inactivity, there may be a slight variance between the selected temperature and the displayed temperature. This is considered normal and is attributed to the inactivation time.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide to help users address common issues such as the appliance not operating, not reaching the desired temperature, frost formation, frequent on/off cycling, excessive noise, and condensation on the glass door. This guide provides possible causes and corresponding solutions, empowering users to resolve minor problems independently. For more complex issues or repairs, it is recommended to contact a qualified technician or the Whynter Service Department.
