the
spring
housing
cover
and
the
two
socket
hend
screws.

stop
segment with
a
light
coating
of
groase,

the
hole

the

toward

disengaging
hub
and
into
the
hole
in
the
pinion.
32. Attach
one
end
of
the
extension
spring
to
the
end
of
the
catch pin
with
the
socket
head
screw.
33. Slip
the
other
end
of
the
spring
over
the
end
of
the
first
pin
clockwise
from
the
hole
in
the
side
of
the
dis-
engaging
hub.
34. Loosen
the
quill
locking
screws.
35.
Put
the
pressure
plate
into
its
hole in
the
pinion
feed
shaft.
36.
Put
the
power
feed
control
knob
into
a
neutral
position.
37.
Rotate
the
hand
wheel
(1934)
clockwise
while
pushing
the
pressure
plate
in
until
the
clutch
engages
and
the
quill
starts
to
feed
down.
38.
Continue
turning
the
handwheel
while
measuring
the
distance
between
the
head
cast
and
the collar
on the
quill.
39.
When
this
distance
•is
5
inches
±
1/16
of an inch, the
feed
clutch
should
disengage.
If
the
clutch
does
disengage
at
this
distanæ
go
to
step
42.
If
the
clutch
does
not
disengage,
the
pinion must be ro-
tated
one
or
more
teeth
counter
clockwise.
Do steps 1
and
2,
12
thru
17,
and
readjust
the
position of
the pin-
ion.
then
check
this
position
by doing
step 26
thru 39.

the
clutch
disengages
before the
distance is S in&les,
the
pinion
must
be
rotated
one
or more
teeth
clockwise.

recheck

Remove
the
pressure
plate.

Replace
the
scale
rings.
Replace
the
disengaging
ring
and lock
it in place
with the
socket
head
set
screw.
Replace
the
lever
hut;
key.
Line
up
the
keyeat
in
the
lever hub
with the
key on
the
pinion
shaft,
push
it
in
on
the shaft, locking it in
position
with
the
two
socket
head
set
screws.

the
two
compression
springs into
their
pockets
in
the
féed
iever
hub.

plate

its hole
in the
pinion
feed
shaft.

lever
and
drive the

pin

the

and
into the

of the

THE
HEAD

off
power
source.

Remove
the
two
slotted
screws
at
the
corners
of
the
speed
selector
switch.
Pull
the
speed
selector
switch
forward
and
out
of
its
cavity.
Remove
the
four
slotted
screws
and
cover
plate
on
the
side
of
switch
cavity.
Remove
the
four
socket
head
screws,
two
at
the
back
of
the
head,
one
in
the
switch
cavity.
and
one
recessed
at
the
front
right
side
of
the
head,
securing
the
hed
Remove
the
four
slotted
screws
and
the
protection
glass
(2064) on
the
bearing
bracket
(2060).
Remove
the
light
bulb
(2063).
Rotate
the
fan
(2061)
until
the
socket
head
set
screw
on
the hub
can
be
seen
through
the
slot
in
the
bearing
bracket.
Loosen
this
set
screw and
slide
the
fan
off
of the
shaft.
Place a piece of
wood
between
the end
of
the
haft
and
the table.
Unlock the
table column
lock.
Turn
the table raising
crank so
that the
table
rises.
This
will
cause
the entire head to
separate
from
the
casting.
Lift the head straight up until the
driven shaft
disenga*s
the spindle and the motor rotor
clears the
lower
casting.
REPLACING
THE HEAD
l. Put
the power
feed selector into any range.

Rotate
the spindle so
that the key lines up
with the
key
seat
on the
driven shaft.
Line up
the driven shaft and the motor
rotor and
lower
the
head
toward the
lower
casting until the bottom of
the head
is even
with the
power feed drive gear.
Rotate
the
spindle while
continuing
to lower the head until
the
precision
hand wheel begins to
rotate.
The
head
should at
this time be about
one half of an indi
from
the lower
casting.
Insert
the four head
zaring
screws
and
draw
the head
ast evenly
down to the lower
casting.

Replace the
switch,
the two
slotted
screws,
the legend plate.
and
the
control
knob.
7.
Replace
the
cover
plate
on the side
of the
switch
cavity.
and
the
four slotted
screws.
ADJUSTING
SPINDLE
END
PLAY
1.
Remove
the
head.
2.
Lower
the
quill
until
the
drill
removal
slot is
visible
and
insert
a
5/16
x 3/4
x
2-3/8
block
thru
this
slot.
3. Return
the
quill
to its
full
up
position.
4.
Loosen
the
top
adjusting
nut
with
a
spanner
5. Turn
the
lower
adjusting
nut
to
adjust
the
spindle
end
play.
6.
Tighten
the
top
adjusting
nut.
7.
Remove
the
block
from
th"rill
removal
slot-
8.
Repla&gh
head.

Loosen
the
small
slotted
screw
recessed in
the
speed
selector
knob.
Remove
the
speed
control
knob
and
the
legend
plate.
