Overview

The WORX Cordless Rotary Hammer, models WX382, WX382.1, WX382.2, and WX382.3, is a versatile power tool designed for a range of drilling and screwdriving tasks. Its primary function is hammer drilling in concrete, brick, and stone, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications. Beyond impact drilling, the machine is also capable of drilling without impact in materials such as wood, metal, ceramic, and plastic. For enhanced control and precision, especially in screwdriving tasks, the tool incorporates electronic control and features both right and left rotation capabilities.

One of the key usage features of this cordless rotary hammer is its SDS chuck system, which allows for quick and secure insertion and removal of drill bits and adaptors. To insert an SDS bit, the user should clean and lightly oil the bit before twisting it into the bit holder until it latches, then check the locking by pulling on the tool. For removing an SDS bit, the bit holder locking sleeve needs to be retracted, and the bit pulled out. It's important to note that due to the powerful forces generated by this tool, only high-quality SDS bits are recommended to prevent breakage and jamming. For standard drilling with non-SDS bits, the tool also accommodates a keyless chuck with an SDS adaptor. To insert a tool into this chuck, the front section of the chuck is rotated while holding the rear, the drill bit is inserted, and then the front section is rotated in the opposite direction while holding the rear, ensuring the bit is centered and firmly locked.

The tool's operation is controlled via an on/off switch, which also offers variable speed control. Depressing the switch starts the tool, and releasing it stops it. The speed can be adjusted by varying the pressure applied to the switch, allowing for greater control over different materials and tasks. For safety, the switch trigger can be locked in the OFF position by placing the forward/reverse rotation control in the center position, preventing accidental starting when the tool is not in use. The forward and reverse rotation control is a lever that, when pushed to the left, enables forward rotation, and when pushed to the right, enables reverse rotation. A crucial safety reminder is never to change the direction of rotation while the tool is rotating; always wait until it has completely stopped.

Another significant usage feature is the function mode selection switch, which allows the user to choose the appropriate operating mode for the task at hand. This switch, located on the gearbox, requires the unlocking button to be depressed before rotating the selector to the desired mode. There are typically two main modes: hammer drilling, for simultaneous drilling and impacting in concrete or masonry, and rotary drilling, for screwdriving and drilling into steel, wood, and plastics without impact. This selector switch should only be actuated when the tool is at a standstill. The integrated LED light is a practical feature, illuminating the work area when the on/off switch is pressed and turning off when released. This light is particularly useful in dark or enclosed spaces and also functions as a battery capacity indicator, flashing when the power gets low.

The WORX Cordless Rotary Hammer is equipped with several protective features to ensure longevity and safe operation. It includes temperature-dependent overload protection, which automatically switches off the power tool if the load becomes too high or the battery temperature exceeds 75°C, allowing it to cool down to an optimum range. Additionally, the Li-ion battery is protected against deep discharging by a "Discharging Protection System." If the battery becomes empty, the machine will switch off, and the inserted tool will no longer rotate, preventing damage to the battery.

Regarding maintenance, the tool is designed for ease of care. Before performing any adjustments, servicing, or maintenance, it is essential to remove the battery pack from the tool. The power tool generally requires no additional lubrication or maintenance, except for the cleaning and lubrication of the SDS bits and adaptors before insertion into the chuck. There are no user-serviceable parts within the power tool, meaning users should not attempt to open it. For cleaning, water or chemical cleaners should be avoided; instead, the tool should be wiped clean with a dry cloth. It is important to store the power tool in a dry place and keep the motor ventilation slots clean and free of dust. Occasionally, sparks may be visible through the ventilation slots, which is considered normal and does not indicate damage to the tool.

The manual also addresses common issues such as varying battery pack working times. Factors like prolonged storage or heavy working conditions (e.g., driving large screws into hardwood) can affect battery performance. This can often be corrected after several charge and discharge cycles. It is also advised not to recharge the battery pack below 0°C or above 30°C, as this can impact performance. For environmental responsibility, the disposal of exhausted battery packs is outlined. To preserve natural resources, users are encouraged to recycle or dispose of the Li-ion battery pack properly, consulting local waste authorities for information. Before disposal, the battery pack should be discharged by operating the tool, then removed from the housing, and its connections covered with heavy-duty adhesive tape to prevent short circuits and energy discharge. Attempting to open or remove any components of the battery pack is not recommended.
