Overview

The Xencelabs Pen Display 24 is a professional pen display designed for creative professionals. It offers a large drawing surface, precise pen input, and customizable controls to enhance workflow efficiency.

Function Description:

The Xencelabs Pen Display 24 serves as an interactive display for digital art and design. It allows users to draw, paint, and edit directly on the screen with a pen, providing a natural and intuitive creative experience. The device integrates with various creative software applications, offering application-specific settings and customizable shortcuts. It functions as both a primary display and a virtual tablet for controlling other monitors.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Display Size: 24 inches
  • Connectivity: USB-C to USB-C (L-shaped), USB-C to USB-A 3.0 (L-shaped), HDMI2.0 to HDMI2.0 (L-shaped), DisplayPort to DisplayPort (L-shaped). It also includes a standard 0.6m USB-C to USB-A 3.0 cable.
  • Power: AC Power Adapter with L-Shaped Connector and region-specific power cables.
  • Pens: Includes a Thin Pen v2 and a 3 Button Pen v2. Both pens come with 6 standard nibs and 4 felt nibs, along with a nib extract ring.
  • Quick Keys: A separate Quick Keys device with 8 shortcut keys, a dial, and an OLED display. It connects wirelessly via a dongle (USB-A) or directly via USB-C.
  • Security: Kensington NANO Security Slot™ on Quick Keys, and Kensington MicroSaver® 2.0 Lock compatible security slot on the Pen Display.
  • Stand: Adjustable Tilt Stand (removable), drilled for VESA 100 x 100 mounts, uses M4 screws.
  • Color Settings: Offers seven different color settings options, including Adobe RGB, sRGB, REC 709, DCI P3, REC 2020, Pantone® Validated™, Pantone SkinTone™ Validated, and a fully customizable user mode setting.

Usage Features:

  • Quick Start: The device comes with a Quick Start Guide to help users set up and begin using the Pen Display.
  • Driver Download: Users need to download and install the appropriate driver for their operating system (Mac OS, Windows, Linux) from the Xencelabs website. A system restart is recommended after installation, especially for Mac users.
  • Connecting the Pen Display: The display connects to a computer for both power and data (video and pen input). If the computer has a USB-C port, a single USB-C to USB-C cable can handle both. For computers without USB-C, a combination of video cables (HDMI or DisplayPort) and a USB-A cable is used. It is advised not to use HDMI and DisplayPort cables together to avoid duplication of video data.
  • Pen Display Features:
    • Power Button: Hold for 2 seconds to turn on/off. The display follows OS sleep settings, with customizable wake options in the settings panel.
    • USB-A Ports: Located at the top of the display, used for the Wireless Dongle to connect the Quick Keys or for charging the Quick Keys.
    • Accessory Clip Slots: 8 slots (2 on each side) for attaching pen clips.
    • Quick Keys Holder: Slides onto any edge of the Pen Display.
    • Device Control Buttons: Three buttons on the left side of the display provide quick access to:
      • Launch Settings: Opens the Settings Panel for customizing device and pen settings.
      • Adjust Pressure: Brings up a pen pressure adjustment panel for the active pen.
      • Switch Display: Activates the Virtual Tablet feature to move the pen cursor to external displays.
  • Pen Pressure Adjustment: Users can individually adjust the pressure of each pen to match their drawing style, including pen tilt sensitivity, via the Settings Panel.
  • Application-Specific Settings: The Settings Panel allows users to create custom settings for specific applications. It comes with default settings and presets for popular programs like Adobe Photoshop, CorelPainter, and ZBrush, which are auto-added to the application bar. Users can add other favorite applications.
  • Virtual Tablet & Display Switch Cycle: In the Settings Panel, users can customize the size and placement of the Virtual Tablet and select which displays to include in the Display Switch Cycle, allowing easy toggling between desired displays.
  • All Displays Mode: Enables dragging items from one display to another, including onto the pen display.
  • Cursor Offset: A feature in the Settings Panel to offset the cursor position, useful if the hand obstructs system windows or for personal preference. This feature can be toggled on/off.
  • Quick Keys Features:
    • Wireless Connectivity: Connects wirelessly via a dongle inserted into a USB-A port on the Pen Display or the computer. An included USB-A to USB-C adapter can be used for computer connection.
    • Charging: Charges via USB-C port, either from the Pen Display's USB-A ports (using the included short cable) or from a computer (using the USB-A to USB-C adapter).
    • Set Button: Switches between up to 5 shortcut sets.
    • Dial: A precise physical dial that can be customized for four dual actions (e.g., zoom in/out, brush size). The dial glows a chosen color to indicate the current mode.
    • Dial Mode Button: Switches between up to 4 different modes per application, each assignable a different color.
    • Eight Shortcut Keys: 5 customizable sets of 8 keys per application, totaling 40 shortcuts. Sets can be disabled if not needed.
    • OLED Display: Shows shortcut key assignments.
    • Orientation Adjustment: The Quick Keys can be used in any orientation and attached to any edge of the Pen Display. Its orientation can be adjusted in the Settings Panel under the customize dropdown.
    • Connection Indicator: Blinking blue indicates searching for connection, solid blue indicates successful wireless connection, and breathing blue indicates wired connection via USB.
    • Charging Indicator: Solid green for full charge, breathing green for charging, and solid amber for low charge.
    • Power Slide Switch: Slides to turn on/off. Adjustable sleep times are in the settings panel.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Includes a cleaning cloth for the display.
  • Pen Nib Replacement: Comes with extra nibs and a nib extract ring for replacing worn pen tips.
  • Pen Calibration: The pen display is factory calibrated, but users can recalibrate the pen if needed using the tool in the Settings Panel to adjust cursor alignment.
  • Future Shipping/Transportation: Users are advised to keep the original box for future shipping or transportation needs.
  • Support: Xencelabs provides support via email (support@xencelabs.com) for any questions or concerns.
