Overview

This document describes a pressure bio aquarium filter designed for koi ponds, specifically the Xtreme Power 4000 Gallons Koi Pond Pressure Bio Aquarium Filter, Item: 71015. It functions as a comprehensive filtration system to maintain healthy and clear pond water, leveraging both mechanical and biological filtration, as well as UV light purification.

The primary function of this filter is to clean pond water by removing harmful algae, suspended matter, and bio-sludge. It achieves this through a multi-stage filtration process. Water from the pond pump first enters the filter through the water inlet. Inside, a vortex system precipitates suspended matter and bio-sludge using centrifugal force and gravity. Following this, a mechanical filter stage traps dirt particles on the outer surface of filter sponges. The water then flows through yellow and blue filter sponges of varying sizes and densities, creating zones for biological clarifying where beneficial bacteria can thrive and break down waste. Finally, the water is exposed to ultraviolet (UV-C) radiation from an integrated UV-C lamp. This UV-C light kills off germs and bacteria and inhibits algae growth, transforming dirty green pond water into a crystal clear oasis. The clarified water is then returned to the pond or a watercourse via the hose outlet.

Key usage features include its ability to handle ponds up to 2500 gallons with a normal fish load, or 1500 gallons with a heavy fish load. The filter is designed for in-line use, positioned between a pump and a water feature or waterfall, and can be partially buried to blend into the garden landscape. It operates continuously, 24 hours a day, to ensure optimal water quality. A flow indicator is integrated into the system, which changes color (from green to yellow) when the filter sponges are too dirty, signaling that cleaning is required. The filter also incorporates a "back-flush" feature, which simplifies the cleaning process by allowing contaminants and debris to be easily flushed out. The function switch on the filter lid allows users to toggle between "Filter" mode for normal operation and "Clean" mode for back-flushing.

Maintenance features are designed to ensure the longevity and effectiveness of the filter. Regular cleaning of the filter sponges is crucial, as suspended matter and dirt accumulate over time, reducing filtration efficiency. The back-flush feature allows for automated cleaning of the sponges by pressing the function switch, which squeezes the sponges and flushes out dirty water through a dedicated cleaning connection. This dirty water can be diverted to a sewage system or a flowerbed. For more thorough cleaning or replacement, the filter sponges can be manually removed and washed with water (without chemical cleaning agents to preserve beneficial micro-organisms). The UV-C lamp has a life expectancy of approximately 8,000 hours and must be replaced after this period to maintain the filter's purification capabilities. The manual provides detailed instructions for both routine cleaning and lamp replacement, including steps for disconnecting power, disassembling the lid, and handling internal components. Proper grounding instructions and safety warnings are also emphasized to prevent electric shock and ensure safe operation, particularly given the use of water and electrical components. The filter is not designed to be submerged in water and should be placed on a firm, level base with unhindered access for maintenance.
