The Jabsco Quiet-Flush Electric Toilet, Model 37045-Series, is a marine sanitation device designed for quiet and efficient operation, offering features typically found in household toilets. It is engineered to provide user control over water levels in the bowl, contributing to both comfort and water conservation.
The primary function of the Quiet-Flush toilet is to provide a sanitary waste disposal system for marine environments. It operates with a single large push-button switch that simultaneously activates the rinse water supply and the macerator discharge pump, ensuring a complete and effective flush. An additional rocker switch offers independent control of the rinse water supply and discharge pump, allowing users to easily raise or lower the water level in the bowl. This independent control is a key feature, enabling users to minimize water usage when desired or to increase the water level for enhanced comfort. It also facilitates complete evacuation of bowl water, which is particularly useful when navigating in rough sea conditions.
The toilet is designed to be plumbed into any pressurized water system capable of providing a minimum flow rate of 3-1/2 GPM (13.5 LPM). This can include the vessel's fresh water system, potable water system, or a washdown system utilizing either fresh or salt water. A crucial safety feature is the water control solenoid valve with an anti-siphon breaker, which prevents contamination of the potable water supply. The system incorporates a high-capacity waste macerator and bowl discharge pump to efficiently process and remove waste.
The Quiet-Flush toilet boasts several features aimed at enhancing user experience and convenience:
For installation, the solenoid valve/siphon breaker must be positioned a minimum of six inches above the hose connection at the back of the toilet bowl, considering all angles of heel and trim, and as close to the toilet as possible. It should be located where any occasional water drops from the siphon breaker will not adversely affect nearby equipment or supplies. The valve assembly must be installed vertically with the hose barb connections pointing downwards and secured to a solid mounting surface. A six-foot section of smooth white hose is provided to connect the toilet bowl spud fitting to the siphon breaker outlet hose barb, ensuring a clean and sanitary appearance.
The solenoid valve inlet hose barb connects to the vessel's water system line using 1/2" (13mm) reinforced vinyl hose. All pressurized water system connections should be secured with stainless steel band-type hose clamps. The 3/4" hose connecting the siphon breaker to the bowl should also be secured with a band clamp to prevent accidental dislodgement.
For discharge, the toilet's 1" (25mm) hose barb should be plumbed with 1" (25mm) hose to an on-board holding tank or, if appropriate, to an overboard discharge through-hull. A 1" (25mm) to 1-1/2" (38mm) barbed hose adapter is provided for flexibility. Discharge plumbing should be kept as short as possible with minimal bends. If the toilet is installed below the waterline and plumbed to an overboard discharge, a properly positioned vented loop in the discharge hose is mandatory to prevent flooding. The vented loop must remain above the waterline at all angles of heel and trim, and the total discharge head should not exceed 4 feet (1.2m). To retain water in the bowl, the discharge hose should be looped upward about eight to ten inches above the base of the toilet, as near to the toilet as practically possible without creating an unsightly plumbing situation.
Electrical wiring should be independent of other accessories, using marine-grade copper stranded wire of the specified gauge. All wire connections must use mechanical locking type connectors (crimp type butt connectors and terminals). The circuit must be protected by a properly sized fuse or circuit breaker. All wires should be secured to a solid surface approximately every eighteen inches (1/2m) along their entire length. The switch panel should be located conveniently for the user, allowing access for wiring to the toilet's motor, solenoid valve/siphon breaker, and the electrical power source. The red lead from the panel connects to an over-current protected positive power source, the brown lead to the waste pump positive (orange) motor lead, and the black waste pump motor lead to battery negative. The yellow lead connects to a solenoid valve terminal, with the remaining solenoid valve terminal connecting to battery negative. The solenoid valve is not polarity sensitive.
The Jabsco Quiet-Flush Toilet is designed for minimal routine maintenance, primarily focusing on cleaning and occasional seal replacement.
Before performing any service, it is crucial to disconnect the power supply to the toilet and ensure it cannot be reconnected until service is complete. All water should be pumped from the toilet bowl, and if connected to an overboard discharge, the discharge seacock must be closed to prevent flooding.
