Outboard Rigging Guide - 2001 Battery Installations
F80/100/115/HPDI
Battery Cable Installation
The battery cables are not mounted on the engine,
but are in a separate box in the crate. This allows
for the battery cable to be rigged to the boat along
with the other rigging leads. It is then attached to
the engine when it is installed on the boat. Install
the cables as follows:
1. Position the battery cable in the boat so the
location tape is where the engine rigging
grommet will be located.
NOTE: Do not connect the battery cable to the
battery until all rigging is complete.
2. After installation of the engine, route the bat-
tery cable through the engine rigging grom-
met located on the port side of the lower pan.
Ensure the cable is in its proper position in the
grommet.
3. Run the battery cable to the starboard side of
the engine pan just in front of the air box.
4. Remove the fuse box cover.
5. Bring the battery cables from the lower pan
up to the starter motor. The positive terminal
on the battery cable will be installed on relay
#2, which is located on front side of the
starter motor. The negative battery cable ter-
minal will mount on the bottom of the starter
housing. Just in front of the lower mounting
bolt is the negative battery terminal bolt.
6. Secure the battery cables to the appropriate
terminals, then coat them with anti-corrosion
grease/coating. Place the rubber cap over the
terminal. Then, reinstall the fuse box cover
when rigging is complete.
Be careful not to over-tighten positive battery
cable post damage/breakage could occur to
starter relay.
NOTE: Torque both posts to 6 ft-lbs.
