If there's no sound from your Yamaha Receiver, ensure the cables are connected properly and that none are defective. Select the correct input source using the INPUT selector on the front panel or the remote control. Verify that the SPEAKERS A/B switches are correctly set. Check that speaker connections are secure and that the output is not muted. Also, ensure that the MaxVol or IniVol setting is not too low. Finally, confirm that the component corresponding to the selected input source is turned on and playing.

The noises may result from lightning, fluorescent lamps, motors, thermostats or other electrical equipment. Try using an outdoor antenna and a earth ground. This will help somewhat, but it is difficult to eliminate all noise.

What to do if my Yamaha Receiver fails to turn on?
    • R
      Robert McdonaldAug 29, 2025
First, ensure the power cable is firmly connected. If that doesn't work, check that the impedance setting matches your speakers. Also, inspect the speaker wires to ensure they are not touching each other, as this can activate the protection circuitry. If the IMPEDANCE SELECTOR switch on the rear panel is not set correctly, set it to either end while the unit is off. Finally, if the unit has been exposed to a strong electric shock, turn it off, disconnect the power cable for 30 seconds, and then plug it back in.
