This document is an operator's manual for the YARD FORCE Model YF1801 Petrol Lawn Mower. It provides comprehensive instructions for assembly, operation, adjustment, storage, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the device.
Function Description:
The YARD FORCE YF1801 Petrol Lawn Mower is designed for cutting lawn areas in private house and hobby gardens. It is a self-propelled machine, meaning it assists the user in moving across the lawn. The mower features a cutting blade that rotates to cut grass, and it includes a grass bag for collecting clippings. The cutting height is adjustable to suit different lawn conditions and desired grass lengths. The engine is a single-cylinder 4-stroke petrol engine, requiring both oil and unleaded petrol for operation.
Important Technical Specifications:

Usage Features:
- Self-propelled operation: The mower is equipped with a self-propelled lever (1) to assist in movement, reducing user effort.
- Adjustable cutting height: The cutting height can be centrally adjusted using a handle (8) to one of seven positions, ranging from 20mm to 70mm, allowing for customization based on lawn conditions. This adjustment should only be performed when the engine is switched off and the spark plug boot is pulled.
- Grass collection: The mower includes a 50L grass bag (6) to collect clippings, which can be easily attached and detached.
- Engine start-up: To start the engine, the primer needs to be pressed 3-5 times, the throttle lever (17) moved to the rabbit position, and the starter handle (3) pulled with a sharp motion after feeling resistance.
- Engine shut-off: The engine is stopped by moving the throttle lever (17) to the stop position.
- Fuel and oil requirements: The engine requires clean, fresh unleaded petrol and high-quality SAE30 4-stroke engine oil. It is crucial not to overfill the fuel tank or mix oil with petrol.
- Safety warnings: The manual emphasizes numerous safety precautions, including reading the manual, keeping bystanders away, removing the spark plug lead before maintenance, never refueling while the engine is running, and avoiding opening safety shields while the engine is running. It also warns against operating the engine in enclosed spaces due to toxic exhaust gases and advises wearing ear and eye protection.
Maintenance Features:
- General cleaning: The lawnmower should be cleaned thoroughly after each use, especially the underside of the deck, to prevent grass cuttings and debris from hardening and impairing operation. The fuel tank should be drained using a petrol extraction pump before tilting the mower more than 90 degrees for cleaning.
- Spark plug maintenance: The spark plug (12) should be checked regularly. This involves pulling off the spark plug with a twist, removing it with a spark plug wrench, cleaning it with a wire brush, setting the gap to 0.8mm using a feeler gauge, and reinstalling it carefully to avoid cross-threading.
- Air filter maintenance: The air filter should be checked frequently, especially in dusty conditions. It can be cleaned by unclipping the cover, removing the filter, and gently tapping it on a hard surface to loosen debris. Severely dirty filters should be replaced. The air filter should never be cleaned with petrol or inflammable solvents, only with compressed air or by tapping.
- Engine oil change: The engine oil should be changed after the first 8 hours of use and then at the end of every season. This involves tilting the mower, draining the old oil, and refilling with fresh SAE30 oil. The oil level should be between the Min and Max marks on the dipstick (9).
- Blade maintenance: The cutting blade should be inspected visually for wear or damage before each use. For safety reasons, sharpening, balancing, and mounting of the blade should be performed by an authorized service workshop. The metal blade should be renewed after 50 hours of mowing or every 2 years, whichever comes first. Gloves should be worn when handling the blade.
- Storage: For short-term storage (less than 15 days), the engine should be allowed to cool, the grass bag emptied, and the mower deck cleaned. For extended periods (more than 15 days), the petrol tank should be emptied, the engine run until remaining fuel is used up, the engine oil changed, and the cooling fins and housing cleaned. The machine should be stored in a well-ventilated place.
- Troubleshooting guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting table to help identify and resolve common issues such as engine not starting, unsteady engine run, uneven mowing, or insufficient grass bag filling. It advises that complex repairs should be handled by a specialist company.
