Overview

This document is an operator's manual for the Yard Force YF22-3N1SPF 22" 3-in-1 Self-Propelled Lawn Mower. It provides detailed instructions for assembly, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, along with important safety information and warranty details.

Function Description:

The Yard Force YF22-3N1SPF is a gas-powered, self-propelled lawn mower designed for cutting residential lawn areas. It offers three functions: rear bagging, mulching, and side discharging, allowing users to choose the most suitable method for their lawn care needs. The self-propulsion feature assists in moving the mower forward, reducing user effort.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Engine Type: Single cylinder 4-stroke
  • Engine Displacement: 150 cc
  • Engine Speed: 3100 ± 100 RPM
  • Cutting Path: 21" (53 cm)
  • Grass Bag Capacity: 16 Gallon (60 L)
  • Height Adjustments: 1.25" - 3.75" (32-95 mm) with 7 positions
  • Front Wheel Diameter: 8" (20 cm)
  • Rear Wheel Diameter: 8" (20 cm)

Usage Features:

The lawn mower is designed for ease of use and versatility.

  • 3-in-1 Functionality: Users can easily switch between rear bagging, mulching, and side discharging by installing or removing the grass bag, mulching plug, or side discharge chute.
    • For rear bagging: Install the grass bag and remove the mulching plug.
    • For mulching: Install the mulching plug and remove the grass bag and side discharge chute.
    • For side discharging: Install the side discharge chute and remove the grass bag and mulching plug.
  • Self-Propelled Drive: The self-propelling control bar, when held against the handle, activates the drive wheels, making it easier to maneuver the mower across the lawn. Releasing the bar stops forward motion without necessarily stopping the engine, allowing for continued mowing without self-propel drive.
  • Centralized Height Adjustment: The cutting height can be easily adjusted using a single height-adjusting handle, offering 7 different positions from 1.25" to 3.75" (32-95 mm).
  • Engine Start: The engine features an automatic choke system, eliminating the need for priming or choking before starting. To start, the engine on/off control bar is pulled towards the upper handle, and the starter handle is pulled with a sharp motion.
  • Engine Stop: Releasing the engine on/off control bar automatically switches off the engine.
  • Fuel and Oil: The mower is shipped without oil or gasoline. Users must fill the engine with SAE 30 (or equivalent, such as SAE 5W-30) high-detergent, premium-quality 4-stroke engine oil (15 ounces maximum for first use) and clean, fresh unleaded gasoline (up to 10% ethanol/gasohol is acceptable). The engine is a "Check and Add" type, meaning oil never needs to be replaced, only checked and topped up.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes critical safety measures, including reading instructions thoroughly, wearing substantial footwear and long trousers, clearing the mowing area of debris, refueling outdoors with the engine cool, avoiding operating in enclosed spaces due to carbon monoxide, keeping hands and feet away from rotating parts, exercising caution on slopes (not exceeding 15°), and never operating with defective guards or safety devices.

Maintenance Features:

The manual outlines a comprehensive maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity and safe operation of the lawn mower.

  • General Cleaning: The mower should be thoroughly cleaned after each use, especially the underside of the deck and the grass chute, to prevent grass cuttings and debris from hardening and impairing operation. When tilting the mower for cleaning, it should be placed on its left side (opposite the oil filler neck) after fully draining the fuel tank.
  • Spark Plug Maintenance: The spark plug should be checked, cleaned, and gapped (0.027"-0.033" or 0.686-0.838 mm) regularly.
  • Air Filter Maintenance: The air filter cartridge should be checked frequently, especially in dusty conditions. Debris can be loosened by gently tapping the cartridge, or it should be replaced if excessively dirty. Cleaning with compressed air is recommended, not gasoline or flammable solvents.
  • Engine Oil Check: The Briggs & Stratton 625EXi engine has a "Check & Add" feature, meaning oil changes are not required. The oil level should be checked before each use and topped up if below the Min-Max marks.
  • Blade Replacement/Sharpening: For safety and optimal results, the blade should be inspected annually and replaced or sharpened by an authorized service workshop. Users are warned to wear gloves when handling the sharp blade and to replace it after 50 hours of mowing or 2 years, whichever comes first, or if it is cracked or damaged.
  • Storage:
    • Short Periods (less than 15 days): Ensure the engine is cool, the grass bag is empty, and the mower deck is clean. Store on a flat, level surface in an upright position in a safe place.
    • Extended Periods (more than 15 days): Perform storage maintenance by fully draining the fuel tank (running the engine until all fuel is consumed), cleaning the cylinder's cooling fins and housing, and thoroughly cleaning the entire machine. Store in a well-ventilated area.
  • Transporting: Before transport, empty the gas tank and engine oil, remove the spark plug cover, and clean the cooling fins and housing. Using original packaging for shipping is recommended.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues like loud operation, engine not starting, unsteady engine, uneven mowing, and insufficient grass bag filling, providing potential causes and remedies. It stresses the importance of using genuine spare parts to maintain warranty and ensure safety.
