      If your Yard-Man Lawn Mower engine won't crank, it could be due to several reasons. First, ensure the safety switch button is fully depressed by the actuator. Check that the battery is correctly installed, with the negative terminal (marked 'NEG', 'N', or '-') connected to the black ground wire and the positive terminal (marked 'POS', 'P', or '+') connected to the thick red wire going to the solenoid. The battery may also be dead or weak; charge it at six amps with a 12-volt automotive-type battery charger for one hour or until fully charged. A blown fuse could also be the issue; refer to the operator’s manual for the fuse location and replace it with an automotive-type fuse of the proper amperage, after correcting the underlying problem.
