Overview

This document is the owner's manual for the Yardworks 6" 20-Volt Lithium-ion Pruning Chainsaw, Model LCS0620-1, SKU# 239-1544. It includes safety warnings, technical specifications, usage instructions, and maintenance guidelines.

Function Description:

The Yardworks 6" 20-Volt Lithium-ion Pruning Chainsaw is designed for cutting wood and branches up to a diameter corresponding to the length of its pruning guide bar. It is intended for outdoor use only and must be operated from a stable and secure platform at ground level. The tool is powered by a 20-Volt 2.0Ah Lithium-ion battery. It is not intended for cutting plastic, masonry, or non-wood building materials, nor for use in a tree. The pruning saw is designed for two-handed operation, with the right hand on the rear handle and the left hand on the front handle.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: LCS0620-1
  • SKU: 239-1544
  • Input: 20 V / 2.0 Ah, DC Only
  • Bar Length: 6" Bar (NQ430439-1041TL)
  • Chain: Q4339
  • Weight: 4.3 lbs.
  • Battery: BL82120-1 (20V battery)
  • Charger: CHL82000-1 (20V charger)

Usage Features:

  • Battery Operation: The device uses a 20-Volt Lithium-ion battery. The battery must be charged before first use, and two to three initial charging/discharging cycles may be required for maximum run time/capacity. The charger is designed for use with the specified battery pack only.
  • Starting and Stopping: To turn the tool on, push the trigger release button backward with your thumb and then squeeze the trigger with your fingers. The trigger release button can be released once the tool is running. To turn the tool off, release the trigger.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always wear eye protection and hearing protection. Additional protective equipment for head, hands, legs, and feet is recommended.
    • Keep all parts of the body away from the saw chain when operating.
    • Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the handles.
    • Do not overreach or cut above shoulder height to prevent unintended tip contact and maintain control.
    • Ensure proper footing and balance at all times.
    • Never operate the pruning saw in a tree, on a ladder, or scaffold.
    • Avoid contact with earthed or grounded surfaces to reduce electric shock risk.
    • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
    • Prevent unintentional starting by ensuring the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source/battery pack or carrying the tool.
    • Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on.
    • Dress properly, avoiding loose clothing, jewelry, or long hair near moving parts.
  • Kickback Prevention:
    • Kickback can occur if the guide bar tip touches an object or if the wood pinches the saw chain.
    • Maintain a firm grip, position your body and arm to resist kickback forces.
    • Do not overreach or cut above shoulder height.
    • Use only manufacturer-specified replacement bars and chains.
    • Follow sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain.
  • Cutting Instructions:
    • Limbing: Removing branches from a fallen tree. Work slowly, keeping both hands on the saw with a firm grip. Cut limbs one at a time, removing them from the work area. Cut branches under tension from the bottom up.
    • Bucking: Cutting a log to desired length. Ensure secure footing and even weight distribution. Cut one log at a time. Keep a clear cutting area. On slopes, stand uphill of the log.
    • Overbucking: Begin on the top side of the log with light downward pressure.
    • Under-bucking: Begin on the underside of the log with light upward pressure. Be prepared for the saw to push back.
    • Pruning: Trimming limbs from a live tree. Make initial cuts further out on the limb to reduce weight before making the finishing cut against the main member.
    • Springpoles: Be aware of logs, branches, or stumps under tension that can spring back, causing severe injury.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Removal: Always remove the battery pack before performing any maintenance, adjustments, or cleaning.
  • Cleaning: Clean the tool with mild soap and a damp cloth. Do not immerse any part of the tool in liquid.
  • Guide Bar and Chain Installation/Replacement:
    • Always wear gloves when handling the bar and chain due to sharp edges.
    • Remove the battery pack before any work on the chain.
    • Loosen the lock knob and remove the chain cover.
    • Remove the old chain from the bar.
    • Lay out the new saw chain, ensuring cutters face the direction of rotation.
    • Place chain drive links into the bar groove and position the chain around the sprocket.
    • Fit the bar flush against the mounting surface, ensuring the adjusting pin is in the chain tension pin hole.
    • Replace the chain cover and secure with the lock knob, leaving the bar free for tension adjustment.
    • Ensure the chain seats snugly against the bar with drive links in the groove.
    • Tighten the knob clockwise.
  • Chain Tensioning:
    • Loosen the lock knob slightly.
    • Turn the tensioning screw clockwise to tighten the chain, counter-clockwise to loosen.
    • Tighten the chain cover by turning the lock knob clockwise.
    • The chain is correctly tensioned when there is no sag on the underside of the bar, is snug, but can be turned by hand without binding.
    • A new chain tends to stretch, so check tension frequently.
  • Lubrication:
    • Chain life and cutting capacity depend on optimum lubrication. Oil the chain before operation.
    • Use bar and chain lubricant formulated for a wide temperature range; do not use dirty, used, or contaminated oil.
    • Clean the guide bar and chain with a soft brush or solvent. Apply lubrication oil between the guide bar and chain.
    • Guide bars with a sprocket at the tip should be lubricated weekly with a grease syringe.
  • Chain Sharpening:
    • The chain needs sharpening when wood chips are small/powdery, the chain must be forced through wood, or cuts to one side.
    • Wear gloves for protection.
    • Properly tension the chain before sharpening.
    • Use a 5/32 in. diameter round file and holder.
    • File all cutters to the specified angles (30 degrees for top plate, 80 degrees for side plate) and same length for uniform cutting.
    • Lift the file away from the steel on each return stroke.
    • Check the depth gauge clearance (.025 in. / 0.6 mm) using a depth gauge tool and flat file.
  • Guide Bar Maintenance:
    • Reverse the guide bar when signs of wear appear to distribute wear evenly.
    • Clean the guide bar daily and check for wear and damage.
    • Smooth feathering or burring of bar rails with a file.
    • Replace the bar if it shows wear inside the rails, is bent, cracked, or has spread rails.
  • Battery Charging and Storage:
    • Charge the battery in temperatures between 39 and 104 degrees F in a cool, dry place.
    • Fully charge the battery before storage and every 90 days.
    • Do not store in a discharged condition to prevent permanent damage.
    • Do not incinerate battery packs.
  • Battery Disposal: Lithium-ion batteries must be recycled or disposed of properly. Do not destroy or disassemble. Contact a local recycling center or call 1-800-8BATTERY for information.
