2.2 Ex “ec”, Type “n”
Ex “ec”/Type “n” is a construction to enhance safety where spark, arc or high surface temperature
is not caused in a normal operation and is avoided under dened conditions such as overload.

ProSafe-RS/ProSafe-RS Lite equipment and an optical repeater can be installed in Zone 2
hazardous area if they are placed in a keyed cabinet (*6) with protection rating IP54 or higher.
The I/O module can be connected to an intrinsic safety eld device installed in Zone 0, Zone
1 and Zone 2 hazardous area using a safety barrier. In addition, it is possible to connect
ProSafe-RS/ProSafe-RS Lite equipment installed in a non-hazardous area and an intrinsic safety
eld device installed in Zone 0, Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous area using a safety barrier.
