The YORK HMH7 Series is a line of 17 SEER horizontal discharge modulating heat pumps, designed as the outdoor section of high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. These units are intended for connection to a matching indoor coil with sweat connect lines and are not suitable for ductless applications. Each unit comes factory charged with R-410A refrigerant for a nominal sized matching indoor coil plus 15 feet of field-supplied lines.
The HMH7 Series heat pumps utilize 360 all DC inverter driven technology, which precisely controls the compressor's rotation direction and speed. This optimization ensures efficient energy usage and stable compressor operation across various conditions, contributing to optimal space temperature control. The units are equipped with pressure sensing technology that detects low pressure in cooling mode and high pressure in heating mode, safeguarding the system from damage. This intelligent control also allows for the calculation of indoor coil temperature based on system suction pressure. The DC inverter technology enables the unit to provide full capacity quickly at startup for rapid cooling or warming, and then adjusts its speed to prevent temperature fluctuations and energy loss, ensuring stable temperature control and optimal comfort.
The HMH7 Series offers several features designed to enhance user experience and installation flexibility. Its smaller outdoor form factor, being a side-discharge unit, saves approximately 35% more space compared to traditional air conditioners. This compact design allows for versatile installation options, including wall, yard, or roof mounting. The units are designed for cooling operation between 35°F (2°C) and 122°F (50°C) without requiring modifications. For heating operation, the ambient temperature limits range from -5°F (-21°C) to 75°F (24°C).
The HMH7 Series heat pumps are compatible with H Series heat pump accessories. For applications requiring a Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV), the S1-1TVM*** series kit is recommended to achieve optimal system performance by precisely metering refrigerant across a wide range of conditions. For systems matched with furnaces or air handlers not equipped with blower-off delays, the blower Time Delay Kit S1-2FD06700224 may be required. However, it's important to note that CF and CU coils are not compatible with horizontal applications.
The units are approved for linesets up to an equivalent length of 164 ft for the HMH72B241S model and 246 ft for the HMH72B361S, HMH72B481S, and HMH72B601S models without modification. They can be installed within 8 inches (long side) and 6 inches (short side) of a flat vertical wall without modification, following the instructions in the technical literature. The design prioritizes quiet operation, with units designed to operate at 73 dBA or less to minimize sound pollution.
Maintenance aspects are integrated into the design and operational guidelines of the HMH7 Series. The units are factory leak checked, run tested, and shipped with a holding charge of R-410A refrigerant, ensuring initial quality and readiness for installation. The cabinet components are made of G90 equivalent steel with a powder-coat paint finish, rated for a minimum of 1,000 hours under ASTM B117 testing, which contributes to durability and corrosion resistance.
For charging procedures, the unit factory charge is listed on the nameplate, covering the outdoor unit, the smallest matched indoor unit, and 15 feet of interconnecting line tubing. Additional charge required for specific matched indoor units and lineset lengths must be added. After weighing in the charge adders, system operation should be verified against the temperatures and pressures in the charging chart, which can be found on the outdoor unit and in the Service Data Application Guide. A 10-minute stabilization period is recommended after each charge adjustment. For downflow and horizontal right installations, some indoor units may require additional charging adjustments to ensure correct equipment operation, as detailed in the Installation Manual for the outdoor unit.
The units are constructed with a high-pressure switch for system protection. The compressor is hermetic with internal electrical overload and overpressure protection, and it is mounted on neoprene vibration isolators that do not require the removal of transportation clips or brackets. The outdoor fan motor is totally enclosed with permanently lubricated ball bearings, suitable for vertical shaft applications, and is of ECM construction, further ensuring durability and reduced maintenance. All badging and labels are applied at the factory.
The HMH7 Series comes with an extended 10-year limited parts warranty and an extended 10-year limited compressor warranty. These extended warranties require online registration within 90 days of purchase for replacement or closing for new home construction. The warranty does not apply to R-22 models, 3-phase models, or Internet sales. Detailed warranty information can be found in the Limited Warranty certificate in the User's Information Manual. The unit manufacturer provides a 5-year compressor warranty without a requirement for unit registration.
