This document describes a unique modular system of variable speed ECM communicating air handlers, specifically the MVC series, designed for use with split-system cooling and heat pumps. These versatile blowers offer flexibility for various applications, including upflow, downflow, or horizontal left or right configurations. They can be combined with cased coils to function as a cooling-only unit or with a heat pump, including electric heat, for both 1 and 3 phase applications.
The MVC air handlers are designed to provide efficient and reliable airflow for residential and light commercial HVAC systems. Their variable speed ECM motors allow for precise control of airflow, contributing to improved comfort and energy efficiency. When paired with cased coils, they facilitate the cooling or heating of indoor spaces. The modular design enables easy adaptation to different installation requirements and system configurations. The units are factory-sealed to minimize airflow leakage, ensuring that conditioned air is delivered effectively throughout the ductwork.
The MVC air handlers boast a rigid case construction with an interior endoskeleton, providing structural support and ensuring insulation remains securely in place. The cases are powder-painted with G30 galvanized steel, offering a coated edge that resists corrosion and rust creep. Quality construction is emphasized, with structural components made of Aluminum or G90 galvanized steel to prevent corrosion. An improved insulation design features a single piece with no external screws, reducing thermal transmission paths and preventing sweating. The foil-faced insulation also simplifies cleaning. With a 20.5-inch casing depth, these models are designed for ease of attic access and tight applications.
For heating applications, 6HK series field-installed electric heat kits are available, designed for installation-friendly and easy service. The system is compatible with various metering devices, including accessory bolt-on TXVs, which allow for easy conversion of indoor coils to the required refrigerant without brazing. Some models come with factory-installed TXVs. The thermoset drain pan features low retention and a positive slope to reduce potential mold or contaminant buildup. A full line of matching accessories is available to accommodate any type of application with the blower and coils.
The air handlers are shipped with "Flex-coils" that do not have a factory-installed metering device. For added flexibility, R-22 or R-410A TXV or orifice kits can be field-installed to meet specific refrigerant choices. All kits are bolt-on and do not require brazing for installation. Compatible thermostat controls are available through accessory sourcing, and for optimum performance, these outdoor units are fully compatible with York touch screen thermostats featuring a proprietary hexagon interface.
The improved insulation design, with its foil-faced insulation, is easy to clean. Electric heaters, specifically 6HK models, include sequential operation and temperature dual limit switches for safe and efficient operation. Service disconnects are provided where applicable, simplifying maintenance and ensuring safety during service.
For external air handler filters, a bottom rack filter kit accessory is available, allowing for easy installation in upflow, downflow, or horizontal applications. This simplifies filter replacement and maintenance.
A breaker moisture seal accessory is available to protect service disconnects from humidity and dust. This clear cover allows service disconnects to be turned ON or OFF without removal, and it firmly attaches to the access panel using double-backed adhesive tape, ensuring that moisture or dust do not contaminate the electrical components. This feature enhances the longevity and reliability of the system by protecting critical electrical connections.
