The document describes the YORK YLHA 50, 60, and 80 Air-condensed water chillers and heat pumps, manufactured by Johnson Controls. These are high-performance units designed for air conditioning or industrial applications requiring cold or hot water. They utilize R-410A ecological refrigerant and are characterized by their silent and compact design, featuring vertical air discharge axial fans, allowing for direct outdoor installation.
Function Description:
The YLCA/YLHA units serve as both chillers and heat pumps, capable of providing either cooling or heating based on the application's needs. Their control system is managed by a specially programmed electronic controller (µC2) designed for air-water chillers and heat pumps equipped with tandem compressors, two power stages, and a single cooling circuit. This controller ensures precise control of the water return temperature, manages defrost cycles, modulates fan speeds, and controls the start-up of compressors, pumps, and electric heaters. It also incorporates safety elements and sensors to protect the equipment from malfunctions. The system supports connection to a standard RS485 monitoring network for supervision and remote assistance.
Important Technical Specifications:
The units are supplied completely factory-assembled with all refrigerant tubing and wiring ready for on-site installation. They undergo an operational test with water and refrigerant leak checks after mounting.
- Refrigerant: R-410A ecological refrigerant.
- Casing: Made of galvanized steel sheeting with anticorrosion nuts and bolts, painted with white RAL9001 oven-baked polymerized enamel. Panels are removable for access to internal components.
- Compressors: One, two, or four hermetic Scroll compressors mounted in tandem on rails with antivibratory supports. They operate with a single cooling circuit, with start-up managed by two independent starters. Compressors are protected against high operating temperatures, and crankcase heaters activate when the compressor is inoperative.
- Water Side Heat Exchanger: Stainless steel plate exchanger, insulated with closed-cell elastomer foam. Includes an antifreeze heater monitored by the controller. Refrigerant side operating pressure: 45 bar. Water side operating pressure: 10 bar (6 bar maximum with hydro kit, adjusted by tank safety valve).
- Air Side Heat Exchanger: Composed of two notched aluminum blue fin coils and grooved copper tubing, mechanically expanded within the fin assembly.
- Fans: Axial and low sound level type, equipped with single-phase motors with IP54 protection. Fan speed is controlled by a phase cut-out shifter, allowing operation at low ambient temperatures (-10°C). Optional low ambient temperature kit for cool-only units can extend operation down to -18°C. Fans are inoperative during defrosting in heat pump models.
- Electrical and Control Panel: Located at the front of the unit, with IP44 protection. Contains contactors for compressors and pump, transformer, magneto-thermal protectors, controller electronic plates, speed control, connecting strip, and keyboard-display.
- Cooling Circuit: Includes expansion valve, filter-dryer, liquid sight glass, high and low pressure switches, and service valves. Heat pump models additionally include a four-way valve (for summer cycle and defrosts), retaining valves, a heat cycle expansion valve, and a liquid tank. Suction tubing is coated with closed-cell elastomer.
- Hydro Kit (Optional): Includes a lined buffer tank with an antifreeze heater, centrifugal pump, expansion vessel (charged with nitrogen at 1.5 bar), safety valve (set to 6 bar), water circuit, pressure gauge, two air bleed valves, filling valve, drain valve, and a loose mesh filter for installation.
- Flow Switch: Ensures sufficient water flow during unit operation.
- Sensors: 3 NTC sensors for temperature readings (water inlet, water outlet/antifreeze, outdoor air) and a ratiometric pressure transducer (B4) for refrigerant pressure (fan speed and defrost control).
Usage Features:
The control system offers an easy-to-use interface with three access levels:
- Direct Level: Accessible without a password, allows reading sensor values and other system values without affecting unit operation.
- User Level: Accessible with password 22, allows access to all parameters normally set by the user.
- Super User Level: Accessible with a Super User password, allows setting Super User, User, and Direct parameters.
- Factory Level: Accessible with a Factory password, allows configuration of all unit parameters.
- Remote Control (Optional): Wall-mounted unit with keyboard for cool/heat and ON/OFF functions, including power supply, alarm, and cool/heat LEDs. Maximum cable length: 50 m.
- Remote Terminal (Optional): Provides total access and control of the system via display and buttons, allowing selection of cool, heat, and off functions, modification of operating parameters, and system supervision. Can be installed up to 1040 m away.
- BMS Connections (Optional): Serial board allows connection to a standard RS485 monitoring network.
- Low Noise Level Units (LN - Optional): Include anti-noise covers on compressors and sound isolating plates for the compressor chamber.
- Soft Starter (Optional): For soft motor start, specifically designed for Scroll compressors (max outdoor temperature: 50°C).
- Protecting Grids (Optional): Steel rods painted with oven-baked polymerized white enamel (RAL9001) to protect coils from impacts.
- Antivibratory Supports (Optional): Steel spring antivibratory supports to reduce vibrations and noise, installed between the unit chassis and the base/floor.
Maintenance Features:
The unit is designed for minimal maintenance. Regular maintenance inspections are crucial for smooth operation, minimal electricity use, long working life, and compliance with regulations.
- Maintenance Schedule: Tasks are grouped by time intervals.
- User Responsibilities: Users are explicitly prohibited from carrying out any maintenance or upkeep tasks on the HVAC unit.
- Authorized Personnel: Only trained Johnson Controls Inc. personnel with the necessary means and tools are authorized to perform maintenance and upkeep work. They must be aware of health and safety regulations and procedures applicable to HVAC units.
- Alarm Reset: Pressing UP and DOWN keys for 5 seconds cancels alarms and deactivates the alarm relay.
- Forced Defrost (Heat Pumps): Pressing SEL and UP keys simultaneously for 5 seconds activates forced defrost.
- Clearing Hour Counters: Compressor or pump operating hour counters (c10, c11, c15) can be cleared by pressing UP and DOWN keys simultaneously while reading their values.
- Sensor Calibration: Sensors can be calibrated using specific parameters (/13, /14, /15, /16, /19, /20).
- Product Disposal: The unit is classified as an electrical and electronic device and must be taken to collection points for recycling at the end of its working life, in accordance with Directive 2002/96/EC.
