    • M
      meghan18Aug 16, 2025
The Zanussi Refrigerator compressor might be running constantly because the temperature is set incorrectly, you put too many food products in at once, the room temperature is too high, the food products you placed inside were too warm, or the door is not closed correctly. To resolve this, refer to the 'Control Panel' chapter for temperature settings, wait a few hours after loading many items, refer to the 'Installation' chapter regarding room temperature, allow food to cool before storing, and ensure the door is properly closed.

Overview

This document is a user manual for the Zanussi ZRAN88FS refrigerator, providing comprehensive information on its installation, safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

The refrigerator is designed for household and similar applications, including farmhouses, staff kitchen areas in shops, offices, and other working environments, as well as by clients in hotels, motels, bed and breakfast establishments, and other residential settings. It is intended for indoor use in a dry, well-ventilated position, with an ambient temperature range of 10°C to 43°C.

Function Description

The Zanussi ZRAN88FS is a refrigerator designed to store fresh food and beverages, maintaining optimal temperatures to preserve their freshness and aroma. It features an automatic temperature regulation system, allowing users to set the desired temperature within the appliance. The refrigerator compartment is equipped with movable shelves and a special vegetable drawer, providing flexible storage options for various food items. Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator of the refrigerator compartment during normal use, with defrost water draining into a special container at the back of the appliance where it evaporates.

Usage Features

  • Temperature Regulation: The appliance's temperature is automatically regulated, but users can adjust it manually using the temperature regulator. Turning the regulator clockwise lowers the temperature, while turning it counter-clockwise raises it. A medium setting is generally recommended for optimal performance.
  • Movable Shelves: The refrigerator walls are fitted with runners, allowing the shelves to be positioned at different heights to accommodate food packages of various sizes. To reposition a shelf, it should be gradually pulled up until it comes free, then placed at the desired height.
  • Vegetable Drawer: A dedicated drawer at the bottom of the appliance is provided for storing fruits and vegetables, helping to keep them fresh. It is important not to move the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer to ensure proper air circulation.
  • Food Storage Guidelines:
    • To avoid contamination, the door should not be left open for long periods.
    • Surfaces that come into contact with food and accessible drainage systems should be cleaned regularly.
    • Raw meat and fish should be stored in suitable containers to prevent contact with or dripping onto other food.
    • Food should be covered with packaging to preserve freshness and aroma.
    • Closed containers should always be used for liquids and food to prevent flavor or odor transfer.
    • Cooked food should be covered and separated from raw food to avoid cross-contamination.
    • Hot food should not be placed inside the appliance; it should be cooled to room temperature first.
    • New food stock should be placed behind older stock to prevent waste.
    • Fruits and vegetables should be cleaned thoroughly before storage in the vegetable drawer. Exotic fruits like bananas, mangos, and papayas, as well as vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, onions, and garlic, are generally not recommended for refrigerator storage.
    • Butter and cheese should be stored in airtight containers or wrapped in aluminum foil or polythene bags to exclude air.
    • Bottles should be closed with a cap and placed on the door bottle shelf or bottle rack.
    • Always check expiry dates for product shelf life.
  • Switching On/Off: To switch on, insert the plug into the wall socket and turn the temperature regulator clockwise to a medium setting. To switch off, turn the temperature regulator to the "O" position.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning the Interior: Before first use, and for periodic cleaning, the interior and all internal accessories should be washed with lukewarm water and a neutral soap, then dried thoroughly. Detergents, abrasive powders, chlorine, or oil-based cleaners should not be used as they can damage the finish. Appliance accessories and parts are not suitable for washing in a dishwasher.
  • Door Seals: Door seals should be checked regularly and wiped clean to ensure they are free from debris.
  • Defrost Water Drain Hole: The defrost water drain hole in the middle of the refrigerator compartment channel should be periodically cleaned using the provided tube cleaner to prevent water overflow and dripping onto food.
  • Non-Operation Period: If the appliance will not be used for a long period, it should be disconnected from the electricity supply, all food removed, cleaned, and the door left open to prevent unpleasant smells.
  • Lamp Replacement: The appliance is equipped with a long-life LED interior light. To replace the lamp:
    1. Disconnect the plug from the mains socket.
    2. Pull the left side of the lamp cover to unlock it, then remove the cover by pulling it towards yourself.
    3. Replace the bulb with one of the same power and shape, specifically designed for household appliances (E14 base LED bulbs only, with maximum power as indicated on the lamp unit).
    4. Install the lamp cover.
    5. Connect the plug to the mains socket.
    6. Open the door to ensure the light switches on. It is strongly recommended to use original spare parts only for lamp replacement.
  • Closing the Door: To ensure proper door closure, clean the door gaskets. If necessary, adjust the door according to installation instructions. If door gaskets are defective, they should be replaced by contacting an Authorized Service Centre.
  • Refrigerant Circuit: The appliance contains flammable gas (isobutane R600a) in its refrigerant circuit. Care should be taken not to damage the circuit. If damage occurs, ensure there are no flames or ignition sources in the room and ventilate the room.
  • Drain Examination: Regularly examine and clean the appliance's drain. If blocked, defrosted water will collect at the bottom of the appliance.
  • Service: For repairs, contact an Authorized Service Centre and use original spare parts only. Self-repair or non-professional repair can have safety consequences and may void the guarantee. Spare parts such as thermostats, temperature sensors, printed circuit boards, light sources, door handles, door hinges, trays, and baskets will be available for 7 years after the model is discontinued. Door gaskets will be available for 10 years.

Safety Information

  • Children and Vulnerable People: The appliance can be used by children aged 8 and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or lack of experience, if supervised or instructed on safe use and understanding hazards. Children aged 3 to 8 can load/unload if properly instructed. Children under 3 should be continuously supervised. Children should not play with the appliance or perform cleaning/maintenance without supervision. Packaging should be kept away from children and disposed of appropriately.
  • General Safety: Keep ventilation openings clear of obstruction. Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate defrosting, other than those recommended by the manufacturer. Do not damage the refrigerant circuit. Do not use electrical appliances inside food storage compartments unless recommended by the manufacturer. Do not use water spray or steam for cleaning. Clean with a moist soft cloth and neutral detergents; avoid abrasive products, cleaning pads, solvents, or metal objects. If empty for long periods, switch off, defrost, clean, dry, and leave the door open to prevent mold. Do not store explosive substances (e.g., aerosol cans with flammable propellant). If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its Authorized Service Centre, or similarly qualified persons.
  • Installation: Only a qualified person should install the appliance. Remove all packaging. Do not install or use a damaged appliance. Do not use before installing in the built-in structure. Follow supplied installation instructions. Wait at least 4 hours after installation or door reversal before connecting to power. Remove the plug before any operations (e.g., door reversal). Do not install near heat sources (radiators, cookers, ovens, hobs) or in direct sunlight. Avoid humid or cold areas. Lift by the front edge when moving to avoid scratching the floor.
  • Electrical Connection: Risk of fire and electric shock. Ensure the supply cord is not trapped or damaged. Do not use multi-plug adapters or extension cables. The appliance must be earthed. Ensure rating plate parameters match mains power supply. Use a correctly installed shockproof socket. Do not damage electrical components; contact an Authorized Service Centre or electrician if needed. The mains cable must stay below the mains plug level. Connect the mains plug only at the end of installation, ensuring it is accessible. Do not pull the mains cable to disconnect; always pull the mains plug. The appliance is supplied with a 13 amp fuse (BS 1362 ASTA approved). A cut-off plug is a shock hazard and must be disposed of safely.
  • Internal Lighting: Risk of electric shock. The product contains a light source of energy efficiency class G. Lamps are intended for household appliance conditions and operational status signaling, not for general room illumination.
  • Care and Cleaning: Risk of injury or damage. Deactivate and disconnect the appliance from the mains socket before maintenance. The cooling unit contains hydrocarbons; only a qualified person should perform maintenance and recharging.
  • Disposal: Risk of injury or suffocation. Disconnect from mains, cut and discard the mains cable. Remove the door to prevent children/pets from being trapped. The refrigerant circuit and insulation materials are ozone-friendly. Insulation foam contains flammable gas. Contact municipal authority for correct disposal information. Do not damage the cooling unit near the heat exchanger.

This manual also includes a troubleshooting guide to address common issues such as the appliance not operating, being noisy, compressor running continuously, door misalignment, difficulty opening the door, lamp not working, and excessive frost/ice.
