Miscellaneous Issues
Table 4 identifies miscellaneous issues with the printer, the possible causes, and the
recommended solutions.

Problem Possible Cause Recommended Solution
Changes you made
to parameter
settings did not
take effect or stay
set.
Some parameters are set
incorrectly.
1. Check the parameters and change or
reset if necessary.
2. Cycle the printer OFF and then back ON.
The ZPL ^JU command was
not used to save your
configuration.
Refer to the ZPL Programming Guide or call
a service technician.
A firmware command turned
off the ability to change the
parameter.
A firmware command
changed the parameter back
to the previous setting.
If the problem persists, there
may be a problem with the
main logic board.
Call a service technician.
Non-continuous
labels are being
treated as
continuous labels.
The printer was not
calibrated for the media
being used.
Set the printer for the correct media type
(gap/notch, continuous, or mark) and
calibrate the printer (Run a SmartCal Media
Calibration on page 40), if necessary (see
Manual Media Calibration on page 109).
The printer is configured for
continuous media.
All indicator lights
are on and the
printer locks up.

The printer locks
up while restarting
Internal electronic or
firmware failure.
Call a service technician.
Ribbon Out
warning, but a
ribbon cartridge is
installed
The Ribbon Cartridge
Sensor Contact Pins or the

or the chip may be
damaged.
1. The cartridge’s smart chip may be dirty,
defective, or damaged. Inspect and clean
the ribbon cartridge’s Smart Chip’s contacts
with alcohol and a cleaning swab. Try a
different cartridge if this does not work.
2. Clean the Ribbon Cartridge Sensor

3. Call a service technician.
Ribbon Cartridge
Authentication
error, but a
Genuine Zebra
Ribbon Cartridge is
installed and has
