Overview

The 3M™ Pro-Protect + Gel Cushions Electronic Hearing Protector (Model 90545-SIOC) is a personal protective device designed to safeguard hearing while offering integrated Bluetooth® connectivity for communication and audio playback. This quick-start guide provides essential information for immediate use, though a full user manual is recommended for comprehensive understanding.

Function Description:

The primary function of this device is hearing protection, achieved by filtering out loud noises while allowing quieter ambient sounds to pass through, promoting situational awareness. It integrates Bluetooth® technology, enabling wireless connection to compatible devices for hands-free calling, messaging, alerts, and audio playback. The device features an external microphone system that picks up surrounding noises, which are then processed to protect hearing from harmful levels while maintaining awareness of the environment.

Important Technical Specifications:

While specific decibel reduction ratings (NRR) are not provided in this quick-start guide, the device is designed as a hearing protector. Bluetooth® connectivity is a core feature, allowing for wireless pairing with smartphones and other Bluetooth®-enabled devices. The device is powered by an internal system, with a power button controlling ON/OFF functionality. Audio output is delivered through integrated speakers within the earcups. The device includes a Voice Assist feature that announces operational statuses like "Power ON," "Power OFF," "Bluetooth® pairing," "Bluetooth® connected," and "Call terminated."

Usage Features:

  • The cups are canted to provide more room for the ears, and the buttons are located on the right cup for ease of access.

Troubleshooting (Frequently Asked Questions):

  • Pairing Issues (Device not connecting):
    • Ensure double-tap for pairing is quick (within 1.5 seconds).
    • Verify "Bluetooth® pairing" announcement.
    • Check phone's Bluetooth® settings: ensure scanning, toggle Bluetooth® off/on, restart phone.
    • Manage paired devices: "forget" or "unpair" old Bluetooth® connections on your phone.
    • Check for system updates on your phone.
    • Perform a "factory reset" on the hearing protector.
    • If issues persist, contact phone manufacturer for Bluetooth® firmware support.
  • Pairing to a Different Device: "Forget" or "unpair" the device from the previously connected phone before attempting to connect to a new device.
  • Automatic Shut-off: To turn the device back on after an automatic shut-off, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.
  • White (Static or Wind) Noise: This can occur due to the external microphones picking up air movement (wind, HVAC) or other environmental pressures and frequencies, which are then played through the device. This is normal operation for the "hear through" feature. If you are not hearing your environment or music when microphones are on, contact customer service.

Maintenance Features:

  • Factory Reset: To reset the unit to default settings, turn the unit on, then press and hold the "Power/Bluetooth®" button and the "Volume" button simultaneously until the unit announces "Default Settings" and then turns off. This can resolve various software-related issues.

Warranty:

  • The manufacturer's warranty is one year with proof of purchase.
