This document describes the A&D HL-WP Series Digital Scale, a precision weighing instrument available in several models: HL-1000WP, HL-300WP, HL-3000WP, and HL-3000LWP. The scale is designed for various weighing applications and incorporates features for accuracy, ease of use, and durability, including IP65 protection for resistance against water jets and dust.
Function Description:
The HL-WP series digital scale is used for accurately measuring the weight of objects. It features a weighing platform where items are placed for measurement. The scale displays the weight on a liquid crystal display, which can show readings in multiple units depending on the model (grams, pounds, ounces, or pounds-ounces). Key functions include turning the scale on/off, re-zeroing the display (to set the display to zero or subtract the weight of a container for tare weighing), and changing weighing units (for U.S.A. models). The scale also includes an automatic power-off function to conserve battery life, which can be enabled or disabled. Calibration is a critical function to ensure accurate measurements, and the scale supports both zero and span calibration using a calibration weight, as well as gravity compensation for adjusting to different geographical locations.

- IP Code: IP65 (Protected against water jets and dust-tight) when used with batteries. Note: When used with an AC adapter, the scale does not conform to IP65.
Usage Features:
- User Interface: The scale features an ON/OFF key for power control, a RE-ZERO key for zeroing and tare functions, and a UNITS key (on U.S.A. models) for changing weighing units.
- Display Indicators: The display includes indicators for STABLE (when reading is stable), NET (when tare function is used), ZERO (when scale zero is correct), and Polarity.
- Leveling: A spirit level and four leveling feet are provided to ensure the scale is perfectly level for accurate weighing.
- Weighing Modes: Supports direct weighing and tare weighing (using a container).
- Unit Selection: U.S.A. models allow selection between grams, pounds, ounces, and pounds-ounces. The power-up unit can be changed by holding the UNITS key while turning the scale on.
- Error Messages: The display provides error messages such as "E" for overload, "----" for scale zero out of range, and "L6" for low battery.
- Automatic Power-Off: The scale automatically turns off after approximately 5 minutes of inactivity if the stable indicator is displayed, a feature that can be toggled on or off.
Maintenance Features:
- Battery Installation: The scale operates on six R6P / LR6 / AA size batteries. Instructions are provided for careful battery replacement, ensuring correct polarity and secure locking of the battery cover.
- AC Adapter (Optional): An optional AC adapter can be used for continuous power. It plugs into a socket inside the battery compartment. It's important to note that IP65 protection is not maintained when using the AC adapter.
- Calibration: Regular calibration is recommended, especially upon initial installation, after moving the scale a substantial distance, or as per local regulations. The manual details a step-by-step process for zero and span calibration using a calibration weight.
- Gravity Compensation: For enhanced accuracy in different geographical locations, the scale allows for gravity compensation. This involves adjusting a stored gravity acceleration value based on the scale's location, which can be found using the provided "Value of Gravity at Various Locations" table and "World Map."
- Environmental Considerations: Users are advised to avoid installing the scale in direct sunlight to prevent discoloration or malfunctions. The scale should be placed on a firm, level weighing table.
- Battery Care: If the scale is not to be used for a long period, batteries should be removed to prevent leakage.
- Overload Protection: Users are cautioned against overloading the scale, which could cause damage.
- Handling: The weighing pan should not be used to move the scale, as this could cause damage.
- Internal Service: Internal service or adjustments should only be performed by a qualified person.
