Overview

The Abrams Tornado is a low-frequency siren system designed to enhance vehicle safety and warning capabilities, particularly in high-traffic areas and busy intersections. This system utilizes infrasound technology, which allows the sound waves to penetrate solid materials, enabling drivers and nearby pedestrians to feel the sound, providing a distinct advantage over traditional audible alarms.

Function Description:

The Tornado system operates as an infrasound alarm, generating low-frequency tones that are designed to be felt rather than just heard. This unique characteristic makes it highly effective in conveying warnings, as the physical sensation of the sound waves can alert individuals even through vehicle interiors or other obstructions. The system includes an amplifier and speakers that work in conjunction to produce these specialized tones.

A key feature of the system is its adjustable tone duration, which can be set from 8 to 64 seconds. This is controlled via a "Timer Selection" panel on the amplifier. Once activated, the amplifier will produce tones for the predetermined duration and then automatically stop. The panel is equipped with three LED indicators that display the currently selected time, with solid circles indicating an active LED light and hollow circles indicating an inactive LED light.

  • Tornado Speaker: 140mm (diameter) x 185mm (height) x 153mm (depth from mounting surface)

Usage Features:

The system is designed for ease of installation and operation, with several important considerations for optimal performance and safety.

  • Adjustable Tone Duration: Users can select from various tone durations (8, 15, 22, 30, 37, 45, 52, 64 seconds) using the Timer Selection on the amplifier panel.
  • LED Indicators: Three LEDs on the panel provide visual feedback on the selected tone duration.
  • Parallel Speaker Connection: The manual specifies that two loudspeakers should be connected in parallel for proper operation.
  • Infrasound Efficiency: Due to the efficient nature of infrasound, the system is not designed for continuous activation.
  • Wiring: The system includes a 10-core plug for wiring. Key connections include:
    • BRN- Speaker (+)
    • Red- positive (+) battery
    • BLK- NEGATIVE (-) battery
    • WHT/BRN- Low Frequency Speaker (-)
    • (WHT)- Activation Switch
    • Blue- Voltage Detection
    • Gray- Common Wire The red wire connects to the positive battery terminal, and the black wire connects to the negative battery terminal.

Installation and Maintenance Features:

Proper installation is crucial for the system's effectiveness and user safety.

  • Speaker Installation:
    • Requires drilling four Ø8.5 holes in the vehicle to match the speaker bracket.
    • The support bracket is mounted to the speaker using supplied M8X30 screws.
    • The loudspeaker position is adjustable.
    • It is critical to ensure the front of the speaker port is clear of any obstacles to prevent sound reduction.
    • Do not install the speaker where it might interfere with the airbag sensor.
  • Amplifier Installation:
    • The amplifier is installed using outer hexagon bolts M6*10 (steel, 304) and flat round head self-tapping screws ST5×16 (white) for bracket mounting holes.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Hearing Protection: Do not listen to alarm sounds at close range without ear protection, as exposure to these tones without adequate protection can cause ear damage or hearing loss.
    • Airbag Interference: Do not install the product or route wires in the deployment area of an airbag, as this can reduce airbag effectiveness and cause serious injury or death. Refer to the vehicle's airbag manual for details.
    • Power Disconnection: Power must be turned off before installing the amplifier and speaker. All power should be disconnected when moving the low-frequency alarm system; hot-plugging is not allowed.
    • Battery Connection: Do not connect alarm devices to the car battery until all parts are installed and there is no short circuit. Take protective measures to avoid sparks when connecting to the battery, which could cause damage or personal injury.
    • Environmental Protection: Keep the product in a ventilated, dry position to avoid environmental damage (moisture, direct sunlight, etc.).
    • Magnetic Interference: Keep the host away from other electronic products (e.g., on-board DVD, air conditioner) to avoid magnetic field interference and damage.
    • Component Matching: Ensure the amplifier and speakers are matched for proper operation.
    • Ground Wire: The ground wire must be connected to the negative terminal.
