Overview

The AcuRite Weather Forecaster, model 00621, is a comprehensive weather monitoring system designed to provide personalized weather forecasts and current environmental conditions for your home. This product consists of two main components: a display unit and an outdoor sensor, working together to deliver accurate and timely weather information.

Function Description:

The primary function of the AcuRite Weather Forecaster is to provide a 12 to 24-hour weather forecast, tailored specifically to your location. This is achieved through AcuRite's patented Self-Calibrating Forecasting technology, which analyzes changes in barometric pressure over time to determine your altitude and predict local weather conditions with pinpoint accuracy. The system also displays current outdoor and indoor temperatures, moon phases, and a pressure history graph to track barometric pressure changes. An Intelli-Time® clock automatically sets itself to the correct time and date, including adjustments for Daylight Saving Time, once you select your time zone. The display unit also tracks and displays today's high and low records for both indoor and outdoor temperatures, which automatically clear at midnight.

Usage Features:

  • 12 to 24 Hour Weather Forecast: The display unit features a prominent icon that visually represents the predicted weather conditions for the next 12 to 24 hours. During the initial 14-day "Learning Mode," the system self-calibrates to your specific location, after which the "Learning Mode" icon disappears, and the forecast becomes highly accurate.
  • Outdoor and Indoor Temperature Display: The display unit shows the current outdoor temperature, transmitted wirelessly from the outdoor sensor, and the current indoor temperature, measured by the display unit itself.
  • Moon Phase Display: A series of simple lunar phase icons on the display unit allows you to track the current phase of the moon, from New Moon to Waning Crescent.
  • Pressure History Graph: A graphical representation on the display tracks the barometric pressure history, enabling you to monitor changes in pressure over time, which is crucial for understanding weather patterns. The current barometric pressure is also displayed in your preferred unit (inHg or hPa).
  • Intelli-Time® Clock: This advanced feature ensures that the clock and calendar are always accurate. After selecting your time zone and Daylight Saving Time preferences, the clock automatically sets itself and adjusts for DST changes. The display shows the current time and date.
  • High & Low Records: The display unit records and shows the highest and lowest indoor and outdoor temperatures for the current day. These records are automatically reset at 12:00 AM daily. You can manually clear these records by pressing and holding the respective "▲" or "▼" buttons.
  • Wireless Signal Indicator: The display unit includes an indicator that shows the strength of the wireless signal from the outdoor sensor, helping you ensure optimal placement.
  • Low Battery Indicators: Separate low battery indicators for both the sensor and the display unit alert you when it's time to replace the batteries, ensuring continuous operation.
  • User-Friendly Setup: The setup process involves installing batteries in both units and then configuring basic preferences on the display unit, such as time zone, DST, and temperature/pressure scales, using the "SET," "▲," and "▼" buttons. The system automatically exits setup mode after 30 seconds of inactivity.
  • Flexible Placement: The outdoor sensor features an integrated hanger for easy placement in a suitable outdoor location, ideally 4 to 8 feet above the ground in permanent shade. The display unit has a fold-out tabletop stand for desktop use and an integrated hang hole for wall mounting.
  • Wireless Communication: The outdoor sensor wirelessly transmits data to the display unit, with a range of up to 165 feet (50 meters), depending on construction materials and environmental interference.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: Both the display unit and the outdoor sensor require batteries for operation. The outdoor sensor uses 2 AA batteries (lithium batteries are recommended for temperatures below -4°F / -20°C), while the display unit uses 2 AA alkaline batteries. The manual provides clear instructions on how to access the battery compartments and replace the batteries, emphasizing correct polarity.
  • Intelli-Time® Battery: The Intelli-Time® clock is powered by a pre-installed CR2032 coin-cell battery, which stores time and date settings. Instructions are provided for replacing this battery when necessary, ensuring the clock's continued accuracy.
  • Cleaning: Both the display unit and the outdoor sensor should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. It is important to avoid using caustic cleaners or abrasives. For the display unit, regularly clean the ventilation ports with a gentle puff of air to prevent dust and dirt buildup.
  • Environmental Protection: While the outdoor sensor is water-resistant and designed for general outdoor use, placing it in an area protected from direct weather elements (like under an eave or a well-covered tree branch) will help extend its lifespan.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting section to help users resolve common issues such as no outdoor sensor reception, a non-working display screen, flashing outdoor temperature, or inaccurate forecasts. This guide provides step-by-step solutions, including relocating units, checking batteries, and addressing wireless interference.
  • Product Registration: Users are encouraged to register their product online to receive a 1-year warranty protection, ensuring support and service if needed.
  • Customer Support: AcuRite offers dedicated customer support via phone and their website, providing resources such as installation videos, instruction manuals, a support user forum, and replacement parts, ensuring users have access to assistance whenever required.
