Overview

The provided document is an owner's manual for an automotive remote start system, specifically the FLRSBA model from Automotive Data Solutions Inc. (ADS). The system is designed to allow users to remotely start their vehicles, with various features and safety protocols outlined in the manual.

Function Description

The primary function of the FLRSBA system is to enable remote engine start for vehicles. This allows users to start their car from a distance, which can be convenient for pre-heating or pre-cooling the vehicle's interior. The system integrates with the vehicle's existing factory key fob or can be operated with long-range remotes and/or Carlink Telematics control (available separately).

For manual transmission vehicles, the FLRSBA system requires an additional accessory, the mSENSE, and a specific "Reservation Mode" sequence to be engaged prior to exiting the vehicle. This safety feature prevents the vehicle from remote starting while in gear.

The system also includes "Key Takeover" functionality, which ensures the engine does not shut down when the user enters the vehicle after a remote start. This procedure involves specific steps for both standard key and push-to-start vehicles, to be completed within a programmed delay time.

Security features are also integrated, offering options like "Soft Alarm" and "BASEC Advanced Alarm." These alarms can be triggered by various events such as door, hood, or trunk opening, vehicle motion, vehicle vibration, and glass break detection. Notifications for these alarms can be set to "None," "Remote notification," or "Smartphone notification."

A "Valet Mode" is available to disable the remote start functionality, which is recommended when the vehicle is being serviced.

Important Technical Specifications

While the manual doesn't list explicit technical specifications like voltage or current ratings, it does provide details on programmable settings and operational parameters:

  • Engine Runtime Settings: The default remote start runtime is 15 minutes. This can be programmed for 3, 5, 10, 25, 30, or 35 minutes.
  • Key Takeover Delay Time: Programmable delay times for key takeover include 45 seconds, 90 seconds, 3 minutes, and 4 minutes. Some vehicles may not support this feature, or it may not be available, in which case the engine will shut down upon entering the vehicle.
  • Remote Start Range: When using the factory key fob, the remote start range is equal to the key fob's door lock range. Long-range remotes and Carlink Telematics control offer extended range capabilities.
  • Security Options:
    • Soft Alarm: Activates the vehicle's horn and parking lights.
    • BASEC Advanced Alarm: Activates a siren and parking lights.
  • Alarm Triggers: Door open, Hood open, Trunk open, Vehicle motion, Vehicle vibration, Glass break detection.
  • Notifications: None, Remote notification, Smartphone notification.

Usage Features

The FLRSBA system offers several user-friendly features:

  • Remote Starting from Factory Key Fob: Users can initiate remote start by performing specific button sequences on their existing factory key fob. The manual illustrates two common sequences: pressing the lock button three times (lock, lock, lock) or pressing the lock button once, then the unlock button once, then the lock button once (lock, unlock, lock). The chosen sequence is communicated by the installer.
  • Adjustable Engine Runtime: The duration for which the engine runs after a remote start is customizable, allowing users to choose a setting that suits their needs for warming up or cooling down the vehicle.
  • Reservation Mode for Manual Transmissions: This crucial safety feature for manual vehicles involves a specific sequence of actions (setting ignition to START, holding brake and clutch, setting shifter to neutral, applying parking brake, releasing pedals, and pressing specific remote buttons) to ensure the vehicle is not in gear before remote starting.
  • Key Takeover Procedure: A defined process for both standard key and push-to-start vehicles to seamlessly transition from remote start to normal driving without the engine shutting off.
  • Valet Mode: A simple procedure using the vehicle key (cycling ignition OFF/ON twice rapidly and pressing the brake pedal three times) to enable or disable remote start functionality, useful for vehicle servicing.
  • Alarm System: Provides security against various intrusions and unauthorized movements, with different notification options.
  • Optional Long-Range Control: Compatibility with Long Range Transmitters and Carlink Telematics for extended control and smartphone integration.

Maintenance Features

The manual emphasizes the importance of proper installation and addressing malfunctions promptly:

  • Professional Installation: ADS products are strictly intended for installation by Certified Technicians employed by registered businesses specializing in automotive aftermarket electronics. This ensures correct setup and adherence to safety standards.
  • Malfunction Inspection: Users are advised to immediately contact a Certified Technician in the event of an iDatastart system malfunction to ensure proper installation or address defective equipment.
  • Valet Mode for Servicing: Activating Valet Mode is a key maintenance-related feature, as it disables remote start functionality, preventing accidental starts while the vehicle is being serviced.
  • Customer Support: For questions regarding the functionality of the Flashlogic remote start system, users should contact their local Authorized Flashlogic Dealer. For other questions or comments, VOXX Electronics Corp. provides a toll-free number and website.
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty: The product (excluding transmitters) is covered by a limited lifetime warranty against defects in material or workmanship, provided it was originally installed in the vehicle. Transmitters have a 12-month warranty. The warranty outlines procedures for obtaining repair or replacement, requiring proof of warranty coverage and specification of defects. It also details exclusions, such as damage to the vehicle's electrical system, batteries, broken display screens, or damage due to alteration, improper installation, misuse, abuse, neglect, or accident. The warranty is not transferable.
