Overview

This document is an owner's manual for the Advaning Luxury Series Retractable Awning, providing comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Advaning Luxury Series Retractable Awning is designed to provide shade and protection from the elements for outdoor spaces. It features a retractable design, allowing users to extend or retract the awning as needed. The awning can be operated manually with a hand crank or, for motorized models, via a remote control. It is suitable for various installation types, including wall mount, ceiling/soffit mount, and optional roof mount (sold separately). The awning's design incorporates tensioned arms for fabric tautness and an "Easy Pitch™" system for adjusting the awning's pitch.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Awning Sizes: Available in 8'~10', 12', 14', and 16' lengths.
  • Projection Space: 8~11 feet.
  • Clearance Requirements:
    • Minimum 1 inch clearance below the roof/eave/overhang (for wall mounts).
    • Minimum 10 inches clear vertical run length (no obstructions) for the awning's operation.
  • Mounting:
    • Wall Mount: Requires installation directly onto wall studs or other major structural supports. For masonry, it must be installed directly onto solid brick or concrete (never grout, mortar, or hollow masonry substrates).
    • Ceiling/Soffit Mount: Requires installation onto main structural supports (e.g., stud/truss) of the roof, eave, or overhang.
    • Roof Mount (Optional): Requires installation directly onto roof rafters or other major structural supports.
  • Motorized Models: Include a 16ft power cord, Motor Regulator, and Remote Control Kit (remote with cover screw, battery, wall cradle, wall mount with screws). The motor regulator allows for custom stop settings.
  • Manual Models: Include a Hand Crank (63 inches length).
  • Hardware: Includes wall/ceiling brackets, retaining hex bolts, retaining nuts, 3/8" washers, 3/8"x4" lag screws, 3/8" flat washers, M13 x 4" expansion bolt sets (expansion bolt, washer, hex bolt) for masonry.
  • Remote Control Battery: CR2430.

Usage Features:

  • Operation:
    • Manual: Operated using a hand crank to extend and retract the awning.
    • Electric (Motorized): Operated via a remote control to deploy, retract, and stop the awning at a desired extension. The remote control has deploy (open), retract (close), and stop (center) buttons.
  • Pitch Adjustment (Easy Pitch™ System): Allows users to adjust the awning's pitch (up or down) using the hand crank through designated loops. It is recommended to lower the pitch for proper closing if adjusted upwards beyond 15 degrees.
  • Fabric Rolling Direction: The fabric must always be rolled over the fabric roller tube for correct operation.
  • Safety Restraints: The awning arms contain tensioned cables and springs. Safety restraints must NOT be removed until instructed during installation to prevent injury.
  • Power Cord (Electric Models): Requires plugging into a GFI-rated outdoor socket. A drip loop should be used to prevent water collection on the electrical socket.
  • Remote Control: Comes with a CR2430 battery. Ensure the battery's (+) symbol faces outward when installed.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Care:
    • Keep the awning fully closed when not in use and at night to maintain fabric appearance and prevent weather-related damage.
    • Protect the awning's cassette with a soft cover during prolonged periods of non-use.
    • Lubricate moving parts once a year with a dry silicone lubricant or lithium grease spray to prevent noises.
  • Cleaning Care:
    • To clean the fabric, lower the pitch via the Easy Pitch™ loops and open the awning to access the top of the fabric for proper drainage.
    • Use a mild soap and water mix (1 part soap to 2 parts water) and a standard garden hose to gently remove dust, dirt, or debris.
    • Raise the pitch to its regular setting and allow the awning to fully dry before retracting/closing.
    • For dusting, use a damp cloth, chamois, or soft bristle brush.
  • Mildew Prevention: Allow the awning fabric to fully dry before retracting if it gets wet to prevent mildew and prolong its life. If retracted wet, open it as soon as weather permits to dry and remove dirt deposits.
  • Frame Care:
    • Perform annual maintenance by cleaning the frame with a chamois cloth.
    • Inspect fasteners, connections, and the condition of metal components.
  • Motor Notice (Electric Models):
    • The electric motor has an automatic overheat protection shutoff system. If run continuously multiple times, it will stop for 30 minutes before resuming normal operation.
    • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the motor. Contact customer service for issues.
    • Form a drip loop with the power cord to prevent water from entering the power outlet and damaging the motor.
  • Remote Care:
    • The CR2430 battery can be replaced as needed. Ensure proper battery installation.
    • Contact customer service for re-synching the remote if it malfunctions.
  • Inclement Weather: Always retract the awning when inclement weather (accumulated water, snow, strong winds) is in the forecast to prevent damage.

Warnings and Safety:

  • Installation:
    • Always ensure the Advaning awning is installed properly and according to safety guidelines.
    • Do not attempt installation under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
    • DO NOT remove arm safety restraints until instructed. The arms contain tensioned springs and can release quickly, causing injury or damage.
    • Ensure no persons or objects are in the arm projection path.
    • Seek professional help if unable to complete installation safely.
    • Wear protective gear and gloves when handling sharp metal parts.
    • Perform installation/maintenance/cleaning only in dry, optimal weather conditions.
    • 2 or more persons are recommended for installation to lift the assembled awning.
    • All brackets must be mounted directly onto wall studs or other major structural supports.
  • Usage:
    • Only use Advaning recommended accessories and original replacement parts.
    • Do not place heat sources or open flames under or near the awning.
    • Do not place, hang, or stand objects or persons on the awning.
    • Only perform maintenance as shown in the manual; contact customer service for other issues.
    • Operate only by an adult who understands all functions. Keep unsupervised children away.
    • DO NOT keep the awning open during rain, snow, strong wind, or unsupervised periods.
  • Electric Awnings:
    • Do not disassemble the awning motor.
    • Do not handle the power plug or motor with wet hands or objects to avoid electric shock.
    • Do not use if the cord or plug is damaged.
    • Ensure the power cord is not strained, has ample slack, and is kept away from high-traffic areas and sharp edges/corners.
    • Grasp the plug by the base when unplugging.
  • Warranty: Advaning offers a 5-year limited manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship for original owners in the US and Canada. It excludes powder-coated/painted finishes, shipping/handling costs for replacements (outside the contiguous US), and damages from faulty modifications, improper installation, natural disasters, neglect, abuse, or unauthorized service.
