Overview

This document is an owner's manual for the Advaning SG Series (Certified Reconditioned) Retractable Awning. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance, along with important safety warnings and warranty information.

Function Description:

The Advaning SG Series Retractable Awning is designed to provide shade and protection from the sun. It is a manually operated awning that can be extended and retracted using a hand crank. The awning features a "Easy Pitch™" system, allowing users to adjust the pitch of the awning for optimal shade coverage. It is intended for residential use, providing an outdoor living space that is shielded from direct sunlight. The product is a certified reconditioned unit, meaning it has been inspected and restored to a functional condition.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Awning Sizes (Width): Available in 8'-10' and 12'-16' widths.
  • Projection: The awning offers an 11-foot projection when fully extended.
  • Installation Height (Recommended): 8-10 feet above the ground/floor/deck. Personal height requirements may necessitate an alternate install height up to 10 feet.
  • Clearance Requirements:
    • Minimum 1 inch clearance below the roof/eave/overhang.
    • Minimum 12 inches vertical clear space.
    • Minimum 10 inches clear space for ceiling mount.
  • Minimum Awning Width: 8 feet.
  • Hand Crank Length: 63 inches.
  • Mounting Options: Wall mount (standard) and ceiling mount (optional, additional parts needed).
  • Frame Material: Powder-coated steel or aluminum.
  • Fabric: Water repellent, but not intended to protect against water elements during rain, snow, or strong winds.

Usage Features:

  • Manual Operation: The awning is operated using a hand crank to extend and retract the fabric.
  • Adjustable Pitch (Easy Pitch™ System): The awning's pitch can be adjusted up and down using the hand crank through dedicated loops on the retractable arms. This allows users to customize the angle of the awning for desired shade.
  • Retraction for Safety: The awning should be retracted during rain, snow, strong winds, or when away from the house to prevent damage and ensure safety.
  • Fabric Rolling Direction: The manual illustrates the correct fabric rolling direction to ensure proper operation and tautness.
  • Safety Restraints: The awning arms contain tensioned cables. Safety restraints are in place during shipping and installation and must be removed only when instructed, ensuring no persons or objects are in front of the awning to prevent injury.
  • Partial Extension: The arms are not designed to be completely straight in the fully extended position; a small portion of the fabric should always remain in the roller tube to keep the fabric taut.

Maintenance Features:

  • Protecting Fabric from Mildew:
    • Always allow the awning fabric to fully dry before retracting to prevent mildew growth and prolong fabric life.
    • If retracted wet, open the awning as soon as weather permits to dry and remove dirt deposits.
  • Cleaning Fabric:
    • Regular cleaning with mild soap and water extends fabric life and prevents mildew formation.
    • Prevent stains from embedding into the fabric.
    • Remove dust from dry fabric by gently beating or brushing.
  • Protecting Frame:
    • The powder-coated steel or aluminum frame is designed for longevity.
    • Regular inspection of fasteners, connections, and metal components is important.
  • Protecting from Harsh Weather:
    • The awning is designed for sun protection, not for rain, snow, or extreme wind.
    • Retract the awning to prevent damage from accumulated water, snow, or strong gusts of wind.
    • The fabric is water repellent but not intended to protect against water elements.

Safety Instructions and Warnings:

  • Installation requires a minimum of two people.
  • Wear protective gear and gloves when handling sharp metal parts during installation.
  • Seek professional help if unable to properly install the awning.
  • Operate the awning only by an adult who understands its functions. Keep unsupervised children away.
  • Use only Advaning recommended accessories and original replacement parts.
  • Do not place, hang, or stand objects or persons on the awning.
  • Always use caution with tensioned cables in the awning arms; securely tie arms during installation, adjustments, or repairs to prevent sudden movement and injury/damage.
  • Install brackets onto wall studs or other major support structures. For masonry, install securely into brick or concrete, not grout.
  • Do not over-tighten bolts during installation.
  • Ensure the installation surface is free of obstructions.
  • The product should only be used as described in the manual.
  • Do not perform maintenance other than what is shown in the manual.
  • Do not remove awning arm safety restraints until instructed.

Warranty Information:

  • 30-Day Limited Manufacturer's Warranty for Certified Reconditioned Products: Covers defects in materials or workmanship not previously specified at the time of purchase.
  • Coverage Period: Valid for 30 days from the date of purchase for the original consumer.
  • Resolution: Defective component replacement (shipping charges may apply) or discount from purchase price via reimbursement.
  • Exclusions: Powder-coated and painted finishes are not covered.
  • Voided Warranty: Any modifications or alterations to the product.
  • Limitations: Advaning is not responsible for damages due to faulty modifications, installation, carrier damage, or re-installation. Does not cover damage from ice, snow, hail, high winds, vandalism, neglect, improper use, natural disasters, or degradation due to salt corrosion, oxidation, chipping/peeling paint.
  • Shipping Damage Claims: Report freight damage and missing parts within 3 days of delivery to Advaning and the carrier. Failure to report in a timely manner may result in incurring all costs.
